(Macon, IL)   Macon Speedway is pleased to announce the winner of the Late Model loyalty promotion put into place this season at Macon Speedway, the Midwest Big Ten Series.    Macon Speedway teamed up with Morgan County Speedway, Jacksonville, IL for a Late Model promotion in which each track hosted 5 events in the series.  Each of the ten races included larger winnings to the winner of the feature.  Macon Speedway has calculated the points each driver has accumulated in those 10 races and the winner was determined……  Congratulations to Kyle Logue of Cisco, IL.  Kyle will receive a check for $3,000 for claiming first place in the Series, the total amount to be distributed is $10,000.  The remaining money will be distributed throughout the second through tenth place finishers.  Kyle raced in all ten of the Midwest Big Ten Series events in his 7L Late Model and tallied three first place finishes, one second place and three third place finishes in his ten starts. Kyle has quick!
ly become a staple of Macon Speedway and a fan favorite.

Macon Speedway wanted to show our appreciation to our loyal Late Model drivers who make the trek to Macon Speedway to race on a regular basis.  Macon Speedway acknowledges that without our drivers in all of our classes we could not succeed and we truly value each and every driver.  With the economy being what it is today, we realize these drivers have many choices to make each and every week in order to be able to race, we just wanted to do something to try and show them that we appreciate them choosing Macon Speedway.  Other drivers who will be cashing in on the new promotion are: 2. Jayme Zidar  3. Roger Brickler  4. Shane Tomlin  5. Brandon Sheppard  6.  Ryan Little  7. Mike Hammerle  8.  Dick Taylor  9.  Steve Sheppard Jr.  10.  Cory Daugherty.

TONY STEWART WILL HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL 2009 TO VISIT MACON SPEEDWAY
Monday, September 29, 2008

(Macon, IL) One of the biggest nights of the 2008 racing season in the Midwest was on the racing schedule not once but twice this year and twice Mother Nature decided not to allow Tony Stewart’s Caterpillar Night of NASCAR Stars III event to thrill the fans of Macon Speedway.

Due to the normal hectic schedule of our two time Nextel Cup Champion track owner coupled with the fact of Tony Stewart starting a new racing team and now being one of twelve Chase drivers vying for the 2008 Championship, we were unable to find a suitable date for his return to Macon Speedway.  We are now currently working on dates for 2009 for his return.  Macon Speedway will refund the ticket price of all tickets purchased for the Night of NASCAR Stars III.  Macon Speedway will start refunding the tickets on Monday, September 24, 2008.  Anyone who purchased tickets will be asked to send in their tickets to Macon Speedway at PO Box 170, Macon, IL  62544 with the full name and address of the person who purchased the tickets and we will refund the ticket price.  Please call us at 217-764-3000 with any questions

Macon Speedway’s Last Hoorah in 2008 Welcomes O’Reilly POWRi Midgets and Micros

(Macon, IL) A tough season of racing came to a close Saturday night at the world’s fastest 1/5th mile dirt track.  Weather and the economy played a key role in the 2008 season at Macon Speedway.  Lots of rainouts coming at critical times in the season added with gouging gasoline prices soured the 2008 schedule but much hope exists for 2009 and the 64th consecutive racing season at Macon Speedway.

To round out the schedule in 2008, Macon Speedway welcomed the O’Reilly POWRi Midgets and Micros to the track.  Along with the open wheel action, the fans got their final chance at seeing the UMP BARBECK Modifieds, Street Stocks and both Pro and Am Hornets.

The final night of racing started with the O’Reilly POWRi Micros.  Quick racing from one turn to another started the evening under the lights.  The crowd turned up with excitement to get in their final night of racing action until April 2009.

The feature events started with the O’Reilly POWRi Micros.  Lightning fast racing on an equally fast track resulted in top notch racing.  Dereck King of Vienna, IL., went back and forth with Austin Brown of Millstadt, IL., who won in August when the POWRi Micros were last here.  King not only took the checkered flag but he also wrapped up the National Championship in the O’Reilly POWRi Micros.

Dave Crawley, Jr. picked up his seventh BARBECK Modified feature win of 2008.  With a huge lead, Crawley was dominating the field, but a caution flag put the racing back to bumper-bumper and allowed Aaron Burcham the chance to challenge for the lead.  He was unable to do so with a few laps left and Crawley took the checkered flag.

The O’Reilly POWRi Midget feature showcased some of the quickest cars on dirt as Brad Loyet of Sunset Hill, MO., battled with Micro feature winner Dereck King.  Zach Daum, Tim Siner and Donnie Lehman all tried to keep pace but Loyet and King were too fast.  After the 30-lap feature was over, Loyet had taken the checkered flag and King took second.

The Street Stock feature continued to thrill the fans as Terry Reed and Troy Dodson battled for the top spot in the final feature of 2008.  Reed held off the challenge of Dodson and also former champion Larry Russell, Jr.  For the Decatur native, it was his first feature of the year.

The Pro Hornets saw a fun race as Joe Reed returned to form in his new car to win his eighth feature of the year, and it wouldn’t be the first time that car would be in victory lane as Richard Crawford edged Heidi Hames for the Amateur Hornets feature win.

The evening wrapped up as Macon Speedway officials got the chance to remember the rules of racing and strap on a helmet and race around the track they’ve been a huge part of this summer.  Former Street Stock driver and current Macon Speedway flagman Joey Webb took top honors in the hornet-driven Official’s race.  He did so in the same car that Joe Reed and Richard Crawford put into victory lane.  Hankins Racing donated a trophy as well as a beef jerky stick and Laffy Taffy to Webb on a job well done and a race won.

The 2008 racing season at Macon Speedway is now finished.  The season kicked off back on Saturday, April 5, with a special night called the “Spring Fling” where Late Models and Modified drivers raced for big first place prize money and victories were claimed by Kyle Logue and Jim Leka, who would go on to become track champions.  The season continued all summer long with NASCAR Nights and special Late Model races like the first-ever joint-track challenge, the Big Ten Series, which was won by Kyle Logue.  When the final lap was waved by James Hankins at 10:40pm, the season officially came to a close.

The 2009 season is almost upon us…so close and yet so far.  Macon Speedway wishes to thank all those who made the season possible, from sponsors to drivers to fans, very much.  Without them, the season would not have been possible.  The drivers of Macon Speedway brought all kinds of excitement which continued to wow the crowds on a weekly basis.  Thank you fans.  Thank you drivers.  Thank you everyone for making the 2008 season a season to remember.

Hornets World Championship Puts Wrap on Points Chase

(Macon, IL) All classes outside of the Chevrolet Late Models were running at Macon Speedway Saturday night as the rains avoided the world’s fastest one-fifth mile track.  Threatening weather kept some fans from heading down to the track but it didn’t stop the Pro Hornet drivers from trying for the $500 first-place prize.

Bruce Dulgar, the current points leader and defending track champion in the Pro Hornets division, had a great first heat with an eight-lap heat win.  He led all eight laps and held off a fast Fred Reed to take the checkered flag.

Ray Goodall won the Pro Hornets feature on September 6th and was trying to build momentum into the Hornet World Championship and he would do so with a heat win.

Also, in the Pro Hornets, Matt Musgrave won heat three for his first checkered flag at Macon Speedway in his first visit.

In the feature events, the BARBECK Modifieds went to Dave Crawley, Jr., who picked up his sixth feature of 2008. He led from wire-to-wire but didn’t have it easy as Jim Leka, driving a different car than his Prairieland Towing no. 40, cruised through his heat and finished second to lock up his fifth consecutive BARBECK Modifieds track championship.

In the Best Fan in the Stands promotion, Roger Drake finished ninth to give him the $100 bonus and the right to pick a fan from the stands to collect $100, as well.  He selected Howard Heyland, a huge reason why Drake is racing in 2008.

For the ninth time this season, Steve Ewing did it again.  After finishing second to Dennis Vandermeersch in the Street Stock Championship feature race on September 6th, Ewing came back to claim victory after taking the lead from Troy Dodson and he was uncontested from then.  Larry Russell, Jr., ended up taking second by a nose over multi-time Street Stock champion Mike Pickering.

In the Amateur Hornet feature, Jeff Gill looked close to unstoppable, coming from the third row inside to overtake Heidi Hames and lead the rest of the way of the 15-lap feature.  Beau’s Auto Body and Hankins racing contributed awards and prizes for the first, second and third place finishers.  Gill took the top spot for his fifth feature.  Mike Morse came from behind to grab second from Hames, who finished third.

The Hogan Grain & Equipment Sportsman feature was a battle of who could last the longest and Norm Wood ended up being that driver.  With the field starting 13 cars, only six remained when the checkered flag was in the air.  For Wood, it was his third feature of the season and second in the last three weeks.  Stonington’s Jeff Graham celebrated in turn one with a burnout after clinching the track championship.

After the final lap of the Sportsman feature, the rains started falling but with luck on the side of the racers and fans, the rain subsided and the final event of the evening took the track.  The starting field consisted of 24 cars and all 24 were on the track vying for the top prize of $500.

As the race began, it was an early competition between points leader and defending champion Bruce Dulgar and defending feature winner Ray Goodall.  As the laps counted and the cars dropped out, Fred Reed ended up taking control of the race and led the majority of the event.  As the checkered flag flew for the final time in the 2008 points chase, Fred Reed had taken his second Pro Hornet feature with Goodall in second, Dulgar in third and Michael Martin finishing in the fourth place position.

Bruce Dulgar celebrated his second Hornet track championship with a burnout of his own at the front stretch in front of his fans.

Following a week off, Macon Speedway will reopen its gates for the finale of the 2008 racing season.  The O’Reilly’s POWRi Midgets and Micros will come to Macon Speedway to put on one last open wheel show.  BARBECK Modifieds, Street Stocks and Hornets are also on the schedule for the final night of the racing season.

Macon Speedway Recap 9-6-08 (Macon IL)

Vandermeersch Shocks All by Winning Street Stock Championship on Skeff Distributing Night

29 Street Stocks were vying for the first-place finish and the $1,000 prize associated with winning the 4th annual Street Stock Championship at Macon Speedway Saturday night.  One driver in particular looked to be a shoe-in because of his dominance over the last two months.  Steve Ewing of Decatur had won eight features in the Street Stock division in 2008 and seven of those wins had come consecutively.  He also has the distinct honor of winning the 2007 Street Stock Championship event as well as being the Macon Speedway track champion.

The heats were fast and the cars were quick.  Fast qualifier Mike Pickering of Decatur (13.021) had the win in heat one with Larry Russell, Jr., finishing in second. Terry Miller and Brian Cassell were one/two in the second heat; Bobby Eskew and Mike Thrasher had the top spots in the third heat and in the fourth heat, the checkered flag went to Springfield Sportsman’s Nationals winner Dennis Vandermeersch and Steve Ewing finished in second.  The top two of each heat set up an eight-car dash with the winner getting a plaque, courtesy of the Osman Family and select companies pitched in to give the winner $100.

In the eight-car, six-lap dash, Mike Pickering led from wire-to-wire for the $100 and the plaque.  Vandermeersch finished second.

During the intermission, Rick Bean from Skeff Distributing got the opportunity to take a ride in the Macon Speedway two-seater Late Model with Modified driver Marty Hiser.  Also, during the intermission, sixty people got the chance of a lifetime to win a 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe, compliments of Macon Speedway co-owner Tony Stewart.  All contestants met on the track and received a key.  If they’re key opened the box which contained the keys to the vehicle, they were the winner.  More than half way through the sixty participants, Ron Cochran from Pana stepped up and turned the key.  The lock snapped open and he was the winner of Tony Stewart’s Tahoe!

The BARBECK Modified feature came out first and after some sloppy racing to begin the race, Aaron Burcham and Jim Leka battled for the lead and from the backstretch into the final two turns on lap 14, Leka snagged the lead from Burcham and held on for his fourth feature win of 2008.  Leka didn’t know he was going to race because of the passing of his father earlier in the week.  “This one was certainly for him,” said Leka after receiving his victory licorice and photograph.

The honor of the Best Fan in the Stands driver went to the fourth place finisher.  Racing with Roger Drake was Ryan Blakeman who couldn’t get past Drake and ended up with fourth place.  He wasn’t sure why he was ushered out of the car but when he found out he was going to receive $100, he was a little happier.  “We don’t have much luck down here but tonight, we had a good car.”  Without thinking twice, he picked Adam Mefford as his best fan and he received $100.

In the Hogan Grain & Equipment Sportsman feature, Brian Diulio and Joel Funk battled for the lead throughout the 15-lap A-Main but in the end, Diulio outlasted Funk who fell behind and did not finish because he broke.  Diulio won his first feature in five years and jumped on top of the car in celebration.  Greg Kimmons, a former Sportsman track champion, made his first visit to the track this season and came from fifth to finish second after running the inside line throughout the feature.

Mike Pickering had a fairy tale night heading into the 30-lap, $1,000-to-win feature.  He was fast qualifier; he won his heat and the trophy dash, and he was starting on the pole for the feature.  His main problem was who was running outside front row with him, Dennis Vandermeersch.  For the first time since July 5th, somebody other than Steve Ewing won a Street Stock feature.  Ewing wasn’t going down without a fight.  Starting third row inside, Ewing battled with Larry Russell, Jr., who started second row inside, for the majority of the race.  With a caution on lap 19 and Vandermeersch well in front of the field, the yellow flag ended up bringing Vandermeersch back to even with Ewing and Russell, Jr.

When the green flag was waving again, Vandermeersch put the petal to the medal and started to pull away again but Ewing wasn’t falling behind.  Ewing ran the same line as Vandermeersch and tried to use the high line but it wasn’t there so he just kept running with the first place car but wasn’t able to make the pass and on the final lap of the final turn, Vandermeersch held on and Ewing finished in second.

Ray Goodall picked up his first Pro Hornet feature win and Beau Hankins claimed his second Amateur Hornet feature of 2008.

NASCAR Night with Tony Stewart Washed Out Again
09-03-08

(Macon, IL) For the second time in as many attempts, the special NASCAR Night with Tony Stewart has been cancelled because of Mother Nature.  Precipitation started falling and didn’t stop Wednesday afternoon, thus forcing the cancellation of the third and final NASCAR Night scheduled at Macon Speedway in the 2008 season.

The spirits of the Macon Speedway co-owner’s fans were once again dampened by the rain and were sent home before having the chance to meet their favorite driver.  For the second straight time, fans arrived early to form the line and await the chance to meet and greet with the driver of the orange #20 Home Depot car.  And for the second straight time, they didn’t get that chance.

A possible make-up date will be announced very soon.  With Tony Stewart being once again involved in the Chase for the Cup, his schedule will be limited to certain dates and hopefully, one of those dates will be rain-free so his fans can finally get their chance and fulfill their dreams of getting to have his autograph.

Coming up on the Macon Speedway schedule, the Illinois State Street Stock Championship will be held on Saturday, September 6, with the winner pocketing $1,000.  Also, on that night will be the giving away of Tony Stewart’s Chevrolet Tahoe.  All season long, fans have been filling out registration slips and sixty lucky fans have been selected to get their chance to drive it home.  Catch all the action this Saturday as gates open at 5pm and racing starting at 7pm.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

MACON -- The pits at Macon Speedway were absolutely full of cars this week, eager for their chance to take on the World's Fastest 1/5 mile Saturday Night. The fans in the stands were treated to one of the best shows of the season with the track in perfect condition for fast racing. The drivers didn't disappoint with plenty of nail-biting finishes all night long. Six more qualifiers were selected for the Tony's Tahoe giveaway, set for next week. Gary Crowe, Zach Page, John Graham, Roger Drake, Melvin Dulgar and Michelle Chandler will all get their chance to win. One lucky racing fan will drive home a brand new Chevy Tahoe thanks to track co-owner Tony Stewart.

The Chevrolet Late Model feature went to Ryan Little, his first late model victory. Macon native Kerby Damery used every line he could think of get to the leader, but never got closer than a car-length. Terry Babb stayed with the leaders and finished in third.

Dave Crawley won the BARBECK Communications Modified feature. Crawley had to hold off a very fast Mark Tullis to do it. Crawley’s win gives him five features for the year in a very tough Modified division. Tullis, the second place finisher has had a fast car the past few weeks but has finished poorly with some back luck. His second place finish showed what his car can do when luck is on his side. Best fan in the stands driver Kenny Morris picked Mark Morris as his best fan, earning them both a $100 prize.

It didn’t take Norm Wood long to get his Sportsman back to victory lane. Wood recently returned to Macon Speedway after a lengthy absence. But Wood’s #89 found its way to the front again for the first time since the season opener on April 5th. Mike Pickering found enough speed late in the race to take second place away from Alan Crowder on the last lap. Wood got a thumbs-up from his friend Pickering as the two met in victory lane.

Mike Pickering drove the wheels off of the old #99 trying to end Steve Ewing’s hot streak. But the “Lightning McQueen” #95 has been too fast for anyone in recent weeks. Ewing’s made it seven feature wins in a row and is well on his way to repeating as street stock track champion.

Brian Dasenbrock, a street stock regular, won his first race of the year in a hornet. The amateur feature went to Jeff Gill.

MACON -- The rain went out of its way to miss Macon Speedway Saturday night, and the result was some fiery on-the-track action. Macon Speedway got to host is Firecracker 50's, two 50 lap features races for the Chevrolet Late Models and the BARBECK Communications Modifieds. The Late Models ran tonight for $1,500 to win with the modifieds shooting for a $750 top prize. The Hogan Grain/KUBOTA Sportsman, Streets Stocks and Hornets were also on hand to put on a great Saturday night show.

After following Kyle Logue’s bumper for 39 laps, 15-year old Brandon Sheppard finally took the lead away. Thousands of fans cheered for Sheppard as he crossed the finish line in first place.  Sheppard has had several good runs at Macon Speedway, including two second place feature finishes and a fifth place finish in the 2008 Herald and Review 100. Brandon’s dad, Steve Sheppard Jr. was running third before a flat tire caused him to leave the race. But he did get to watch his son pass the Late Model points leader and drive on to his first feature win.

Jeremy Nichols dominated the Modified Firecracker 50, earning himself a nice $750 prize. Nichols' closest competition was the underdog Joe Strawkas, who passed Jim Leka on lap 45 to grab second. Nichols started in the back in his heat race and had some trouble passing cars. But the changes his team made were the right ones. One of the top Macon Speedway regulars, Nichols ended a winless streak that stretched back to July 5th.

Scott Landers started from the pole and held on to win. Alan Crowder led one lap as he scooted underneath the leader, but Landers' car was too strong to hold off. Bryan Diulio ran a smart race and took second.  Norm Wood, winner of the Sportsman season opener, worked his way up to third.

Steve Ewing has his street stock in last season’s form. Ewing got a six race feature winning streak going. He’s likely to challenge last year’s streak of nine that only ended because the season was over. Heidi Hames and James Hankins won it the hornets.

(Macon, IL) August 19, 2008
Macon Speedway co-owners Ken Schrader and Kenny Wallace were at it again.  The Night of NASCAR Stars originally scheduled for Memorial Day was made up Tuesday with both NASCAR stars and 2007 Daytona 500 winner Kevin Harvick competing in the BARBECK Modifieds.  SPEED-TV analyst and former Cup driver Jimmy Spencer was also along for the fun with the autograph session and commentary.

Schrader won his second feature at Macon this year.  The first feature was the NASCAR Night which featured 13 NASCAR drivers on June 14.  Kenny Wallace finished eight in the feature.  Kevin Harvick did not finish because of a flat right front tire on lap 11.

Dennis Erb, Jr. came close to winning the Herald & Review 100 Saturday night in the Northern All-Star Late Model event but lost the lead to Kevin Weaver.  Erb would not allow that same drama to unfold Tuesday.  Starting front row outside of Macon Speedway points leader Kyle Logue, Erb passed Logue on lap nine and did not let go despite attempts by Jason Feger and Logue.

Steve Ewing won his fifth Street Stock feature in a row and sixth overall with the dominant 12-lap race.

Chevrolet Late Models (Northern All-Star Late Models)

1.    Dennis Erb, Jr. (Carpentersville) 2. Kyle Logue (Cisco) 3. Steve Sheppard, Jr. (New Berlin) 4. Jason Feger (Bloomington) 5. Brandon Sheppard (New Berlin)

BARBECK Modifieds

1.    Ken Schrader (Fenton, MO.) 2. Brad Crosby (Decatur) 3. Chad Evans (Mattoon) 4. Jeremy Nichols (Decatur) 5. Jim Leka (Illiopolis)

Street Stocks

1.    Steve Ewing (Decatur) 2. Troy Dodson (Cerro Gordo) 3. Larry Russell, Jr. (Decatur) 4. Terry Reed (Decatur) 5. Brian Dasenbrock (Decatur)

(Macon, IL) Dan Stamm and his family from Penfield arrived at Macon Speedway Tuesday morning at 11am to meet his favorite NASCAR driver Kevin Harvick.  He was first in line for the autograph session with Harvick, Jimmy Spencer, Kenny Wallace and Ken Schrader.  He was extremely pleased to once again meet his favorite.  “We came to last year’s show, too, and we’ve been to all of them,” said Stamm.  “I love Kevin Harvick.”  He had multiple die cast replicas for Harvick to sign.

Nancy Dragoo and Richard Floyd arrived at 2pm to meet their favorite SPEED-TV analysts Kenny Wallace and Jimmy Spencer.  Floyd even picked Schrader to win the night’s BARBECK Modifieds feature.

The evening started with the Northern All-Star Late Models and qualifying.  Decatur’s Butch Smith was the overall fast qualifier with a 10.833 lap time.

The drop of NASCAR Night’s green flag came from Jimmy Spencer who came to Macon Speedway for the first time.  “Wow, this track is small.  This is going to be neat!”  Spencer dropped the first event’s green flag with Macon Speedway co-owner Ken Schrader starting second row inside.  On the white flag lap, Schrader made the pass for the lead and held on for the win.  Kenny Morris, a native of Virginia, IL., who led the first seven laps, finished second.

Kenny Wallace and Kevin Harvick raced in heat three and tried to battle for the top spots but the Macon regulars wouldn’t give up the lead on their home track.  Decatur’s Brad Crosby held off the field for the checkered flag.  Wallace finished third and Harvick in fifth.
The Northern All-Star Late Models put on a terrific display of racing in three heats.  Kyle Logue, who won a $2,000 bonus at Saturday’s Herald & Review 100 for being a 10-appearance Macon driver and finishing higher than any other Macon regular, won the first heat.  Steve Sheppard, Jr. won the second heat with his 15-year-old son Brandon Sheppard taking second, passing Butch Smith on lap nine of ten.  Dennis Erb, Jr. came into the night with a 34-point advantage in the Northern All-Star Late Models points race, finished ahead of Jason Feger, who is second in the Northern All-Stars points.

Steve Ewing continued his dominance in the Street Stocks, taking the heat win as did Troy Dodson.

The BARBECK Modifieds feature event was first and Ken Schrader from Fenton, MO., started on the pole.  Schrader won the Night of NASCAR Stars event on June 14 when the field was full of NASCAR drivers.  Competing against his fellow NASCAR drivers and Macon Speedway regulars, Schrader led all 20 laps and picked up the feature win.

The Best Fan in the Stands honor went to the driver who finished eighth.  Macon Speedway co-owner Kenny Wallace raced with long-time Macon racer Roger Drake for the eighth place position and was awarded the $100 bonus.  Wallace selected a young fan and Go-Kart racer as the Best Fan in the Stands.

Kevin Harvick did not have a very good night at Macon Speedway in his no. 29 Larry Shaw racecar.  Harvick left the feature on lap 11 with a flat right front tire.

The Northern All-Star Late Models left Macon Speedway on Saturday after racing 100 laps for $6,000.  They returned Tuesday for a 30-lap feature and $2,000 at stake.
Cisco’s Kyle Logue had the pole alongside Carpentersville native Dennis Erb, Jr.  Logue had the lead up until the end of lap eight and turn four when Erb, Jr. took the lead to start lap nine and did not relinquish the lead.  Despite efforts by Jason Feger and Kyle Logue, the lead was not jeopardized and Dennis Erb, Jr. went on to win the feature.

Steve Ewing’s dominance in the Street Stock division continued with yet another feature win.  He has won five features in a row and six overall.  Troy Dodson and Larry Russell, Jr. tried to find a line to catch up to Ewing but nothing was going to stop him from the feature.

Morse Driveways and King-Lar Company each donated $75 each to the winners of the BARBECK Modified feature and the Street Stock feature.  Ken Schrader and Steve Ewing each received $150 compliments on those companies.

Up next at Macon Speedway is the Mueller Distributing Lite Beer Twin 50s.  A 50-lap feature for the Chevrolet Late Models paying $1,500-to-win and a 50-lap feature for the BARBECK Modifieds paying $750-to-win.  Hogan/Grain & Equipment Sportsman, Street Stocks and Pro and Amateur Hornets will also make up the show Saturday night.

MACON SPEEDWAY GETS READY FOR KEVIN HARVICK

(Macon, IL) Macon Speedway will feature NASCAR Stars Kevin Harvick, Jimmy Spencer and Macon Speedway track owners Kenny Wallace and Kenny Schrader.  Tickets purchased for the Night of NASCAR Stars I originally on the schedule for May 26 will be good for the new date of August 19, 2008.  Tickets are on sale now for August 19 by calling 217-764-3000, as we still have many good seats available.

Kevin Harvick (Happy), winner of the 2007 Daytona 500 is joining fellow Sprint Cup veteran Kenny Wallace in visiting Macon Speedway on August 19, 2008.  Kevin is currently 10th in points behind Jeff Gordon in the Sprint Cup Series.  Kenny is very excited to be coming back home to visit his track to see the local racers and fans of Macon Speedway.

Kevin Harvick was born on December 8, 1975, in Bakersfield, California. Kevin says he is considering a career in architecture when his racing days are over. In 2003, Kevin became the first driver in the history to win the Brickyard 400 from the pole position. After Kevin won the 2003 Brickyard 400, he blew a tire and lost a fender spinning victory doughnuts. The day before winning the 2007 Daytona 500, Kevin won the Orbitz 300. It was his first victory at Daytona, followed 24 hours later by his second. Kevin’s hobbies include skeet shooting, racing radio-controlled cars and playing golf and video games. He has a large arcade in his basement.

Jimmy Spencer is one of the few drivers to have won a race in all three of NASCAR's top series: Nextel Cup, the Busch Series , and the Craftsman Truck Series.  Jimmy Spencer followed his father, Ed Spencer Sr., in racing. Jimmy started in Late Models in Pennsylvania. He captured his first racing win in the Late Model division at Port Royal (Pennsylvania) Speedway in 1976. He moved to NASCAR Modifieds at Shangri-La Speedway (Owego, New York), and then branched out to bigger events throughout the Northeast. In 1989 he moved to the Winston Cup Series, driving for Buddy Baker's team.  Spencer won two Winston Cup races while driving for Junior Johnson in 1994. These two victories, both scored in July 1994, remain his only Cup wins.   Nicknamed "Mr. Excitement" since his Modified years for his aggressive driving style, Spencer is currently a co-host with Kenny Wallace on the Speed Channel's prerace and post race NASCAR shows NASCAR Race Day and NASCAR Victory Lane.

Kenny Wallace’s background in racing came straight from his bloodlines. His father, Russ, was one of the Midwest's most successful short track drivers, and his two older brothers, Rusty and Mike, are racers as well. In his first stint ever behind the wheel of a race car in 1982, Wallace won the Street Stock State Championship in Illinois. After turning wrenches on older brother, Rusty's, race cars for a few years, Kenny returned to driving by competing in the American Speed Association (ASA) in 1986. He immediately found success by garnering Rookie of the Year honors and finishing 11th in series points.  Kenny also finished second behind fellow Macon Speedway owner Kenny Schrader in the Night of NASCAR Stars II held at Macon Speedway on June 12.

Gates open at Macon Speedway on August 19 at 3:00 PM.  An autograph session with the NASCAR drivers will take place from 4:30 to 5:30 on a first-come, first-served basis.  Racing qualifying starts at 7:00 PM.

All seating for the Nights of NASCAR Stars at Macon Speedway is reserved.  Adult seats are $25 and seats for children 12 and under are $5 for the August 19 event.  Pit passes will be $30.  Orders can be placed by calling 217-764-3000 or 217-764-3200.  Tickets are on sale for the July 30 Nights of NASCAR Stars featuring Tony Stewart.

MACON -- The fans came out in force to watch this year's Herald and Review 100. Part of the Summer Nationals for Late Models, the 100 lap race is Macon Speedway's version of the Daytona 500. A huge field of late models, modifieds, street stocks and hornets flocked to Macon for the track's biggest event of the year.

Kevin Weaver was one of the only cars brave enough to run the whole race on the high line, but the risk paid off. Weaver won his fourth Herald and Review 100. Dennis Erb led the race from lap 29, but a caution on lap 83 put Weaver right behind. Erb's low line was no match for Weaver in the late stages of the race.

Jason Feger finished in third place, running all night in the top three, but unable to grab the lead. Wes Steidinger started up front and led the first 29 laps, he finished in fourth. Brandon Sheppard, 15 years old,  surprised all lot of fans tonight, passing half a dozen cars and Kyle Logue to grab fifth place. Logue ended up in sixth, running as high as fourth.

Macon Speedway veteran Dick Taylor of Springfield put up the fastest time in qualifying. Blue Mound's Cory Daugherty had the fastest time until Taylor, the last qualifier of the day, set the fastest lap.

The Herald and Review 100 also brought the crowd some of the best heat races of the season. Three local favorites, Chris Dick, Jayme Zidar and Kyle Logue had a dogfight for the heat win, with Zidar pulling into the lead on the final turn. Sullivan's Rodney Standerder, Jason Feger (Bloomington) and last year's Herald and Review 100 winner Wes Steidinger all took the checkered flag in their heats.

Decatur's Marty Hiser had to hold off two of the best modifieds at Macon Speedway to win the BARBECK Communications Modified feature. Leka was putting the pressure on Hiser until he spun out and had o go to the back of the field. Hiser kept Nichols behind long enough to win his second race of the season.

Steve Ewing has his car running in last year’s form. His win tonight in the street stock feature gives him four straight. Ewing won last year’s street stock champion, at one point having a nine race winning streak.

MACON -- The POWRi Midgets and Micros visited Macon Speedway once again Friday night, part one of a double header weekend. Local favorite Justin Allgaier and the rest of the POWRi drivers were throwing caution to the wind and sliding the cars through every turn. Tomorrow, Macon Speedway runs this year's Herald and Review 100 for the Northern All Star Late Models. But don't count out the local drivers. Kyle Logue, Cory Daugherty and Jayme Zidar have experience on their side. Plus, three time Modified feature winner Jeremy Nichols will run his brand new jet black Late Model for the first time.

This was an awesome night for everyone on the crew." Allgaier said.

In the Micro feature, Austin Brown had to avoid a couple of pass attempts from Dereck King. Brown ran the Midget feature as well, and used what he learned for the micros. “I knew the track was slick from top to bottom. Everything was up top for the Midgets. I love running the top at this track.” Brown said.

Jeff Curl made his first visit to Macon Speedway in a few months. He had to get by Marty Hiser to win the BARBECK Communications Modified feature. Hiser passed Curl with two to go, but Curl snuck his nose inside on the last turn and won. Mark Tullis was the only car finding speed on the outside. He made an impressive run finishing right with the winners in third place. Best fan in the stand driver Larry Ferguson picked Jamie Ferguson as his best fan, earning them both a $100 prize.

MACON -- Macon Speedway got lucky with a few days of good weather to put together a great night of racing Saturday night. The track crew at Macon had the racing surface in perfect condition this week, and it showed with some great nose-to-nose racing. Carl Clark from Blue Mound is taking home a new car thanks to Kenny's Car Giveaway. Macon Speedway also picked six more qualifiers for the  Tony's Tahoe Giveaway. June Hatch, Rodeny Aten, Carol Paceley, Kim Stahulak, Steve Hill and Jim Cleaver Jr.  Will all have there chance to win a brand new Chevy Tahoe.

The Chevrolet Late Model feature went to Kyle Logue, his ninth win of the season. Macon native Kerby Damery passed Logue with two laps to go, but an unfortunate yellow flag put him back in second place.

Logue has a long lead in the late model championship points and The Big Ten MidWest Series. If Logue were to win the upcoming Herald and Review 100, he could win $6,000 plus a possible $10,000 bonus from the Big Ten MidWest Series for racing the required ten times at Macon Speedway.

Aaron Burcham finally broke through for his first BARBECK Communications Modified feature win at Macon Speedway Saturday night. He earned it, too. He had the most impressive Macon Speedway resume, Jim Leka, right behind him. Leka reeled Burcham in for a over the last three laps and finished door-to-door with the first time winner. Burcham always runs well when starting in the front and he proved it again. For Aaron, this was a long time coming. "I'm relieved and excited. All this stuff is just lifting off of me." Burcham said. Best fan in the stand driver Brad Crosby chose J.D. Cripe as his best fan, earning them both a $100 prize.

Jeff Graham stole the Hogan Grain/KUBOTA Sportsman feature win away from Scott Landers. Graham looked like he would be stuck with a fifth place finish. But with five laps to go, his inside line came to life. After making quick work of the cars in front of him, Graham passed Landers on the final turn. Graham's fans cheered as he passed the top four cars in the last five laps. Alan Crowder made an impressive run, sneaking his way up to second place.

Jeff Dodd in the UMP Hornet class came across the line in front of Fred Reed with points leader Bruce Dulgar finishing third.

Steve Ewing took home the Street Stock Special $400 to win and guaranteed himself a starting position in the 4th Annual IL State Street Stock Championship on September 6th.

Heidi Hames wins her first Feature in the Amateur Hornests.

Pick a racing series.  Choose a style of race car.  Name a venue.  Chances are Tony Stewart has proven victorious.  The driver of the No. 20 Home Depot Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series has scored 11 championships since he first wheeled a go-kart at a Westport, IN. race track in 1978.  Tony is a two-time Sprint Cup Series champion winning in 2002 and in 2005.  Tony joined the NASCAR circuit by way of IRL IndyCar Series, where he was series champion in 1997.  Stewart has raced just about everything including USAC’s top three national touring divisions; Midget, Sprint and Silver Crown.  He is the first and only driver to have won championships in stock cars, Indy cars and open-wheel Midget, Sprint and Silver Crown cars.

“When I started racing competitively when I was about seven or eight, getting a trophy that was bigger than the other kids’ was all I cared about,” said Stewart, who entered his 10th year in the Sprint Cup Series in 2008”.  “I couldn’t have asked for more out of this life.  I feel like I’m a very, very fortunate person, so no matter what happens, no matter how long I race or don’t race, the goals and everything that happens from here is just icing on the cake.”  “I’ve been very lucky to do the things I’ve done.”  Stewart’s racing career began at the age of seven behind the wheel of a go-kart with his father, Nelson, serving as car owner and crew chief.  “He never let me settle for second,” said Stewart of his dad, who still frequents races whenever his schedule permits.

Kyle Logue wins eighth feature of season at Macon Speedway

MACON – Macon Speedway celebrated the Dog Days of Summer Saturday Night. Along with a show full of fast action racing, the track also hosted the annual wiener dog race during the intermission. The Chevrolet Late Models, BARBECK Communications Modifieds, Hogan Grain/KUBOTA Sportsman, Street Stocks, Pro Hornets and Amateur Hornets all hit the track along with a special running of the Kidz Modz series. The winner was Bobby Pierce Jr.

Kyle Logue led again from flag to flag, his eighth Late Model feature win of the season. But the most impressive run was by 15 year old Brandon Sheppard, son of Late Model star Steve Sheppard Jr.. Brandon’s racked up two consecutive second place finishes at Macon Speedway. Even Logue was impressed, “Every time I though I could relax, here comes Brandon. I had to get back up on the wheel. He’s a good racer. He’s going to be tough in a couple of years.” Logue has won eight of the 12 late model races at Macon Speedway this year and now holds a commanding points lead.

Macon Speedway legend Jim Leka inherited the lead early in the race and held off a challenge from Mark Tullis to the win BARBECK Communications Modified feature. Leader and pole-sitter Dave Crawley had to pull his car off the track when he left his drive shaft lying in turn two. Tullis had best run of his 2008 season in winning his heat race and finishing second in the feature. Best Fan in the Stands driver Allen Burcham picked Rose Bud as his best fan, earning them both $100.

When Mike Pickering starts up front in the Hogan Grain/KUBOTA Sportsman feature, it’s tough to get by him. The smooth-driving Pickering had his line dialed in, no one in the field could catch him. With one more lap, Scott Landers might’ve been able to take advantage of some pesky lapped traffic to pass the leader, but Pickering held on to win his fifth Sportsman feature this year.

Al Crawley gave it everything he could, but Steve Ewing’s street stock was just too fast. The defending street stock champion Ewing has his car running similar to last year when he dominated the class. Jeff Dodd won the pro hornet feature by nearly half a lap over Bruce Dulgar. Dodd has captured two checkered flags this year.

MODIFIED MANIA WINNERS ARE ANNOUNCED

(Macon, IL) Macon Speedway is proud to announce that Dave Crawley Jr. and Jeremy Nichols have won the first Modified Mania bonus at Macon Speedway. The bonus was awarded to the top points winner from the two races held last weekend as part of the Modified Mania event. Marty Hiser had a chance to take home the bonus but couldn’t quite get his car where he needed it to be to pull off a repeat feature win on both nights, so the bonus winner would be the points winner. Dave Crawley Jr. and Jeremy Nichols both of Decatur, IL will split the bonus due to a tie in points accumulated in the weekend event. Dave Crawley Jr. finished in third place on Friday night and brought home the feature win on Saturday night. Jeremy Nichols finished a strong second on both nights of the Modified Mania event. Modified Mania brought out over 40 UMP Modified cars to Macon Speedway

Macon Speedway Recap from 7-19
---------------------------------
Sunday, July 20, 2008
MACON – In a race where no one could find the right racing groove, Kyle Logue showed why he’s the face of Macon Speedway. The leader by far in Big Ten MidWest series standings, Logue picked up win number seven of the year. Logue’s late model ran smooth through the corners when no one else could get a handle on the track.
“I like it. I could stay on the throttle all the way through the corner.” Logue said.
Youngster Brandon Sheppard had his best showing ever at Macon Speedway, he finished second one spot in front of his dad, Late Model star and multi-feature winner Steve Sheppard Jr.
Late model contender Jayme Zidar was serving a one race suspension for his antics last week. It was a costly penalty as Logue now moves into first place in championship standings and lengthens his lead in the Big Ten MidWest Series standings.
Dave Crawley got his fourth feature win of the year in the BARBECK Communications Modifieds. Crawley started up front and held the lead start to finish. Jeremy Nichols found himself in the same position as he was in Friday night's race, second place with the leader pulling away. It was another good points run for Jim Leka, his third place finish will keep him near the top of the standings. Best fan in the stands driver Roger Drake picked  Jeff Drake as his best fan, earning them both a $100 prize.
Scott Landers couldn't hold off Rick Roedel's late race charge, his first Hogan Grain/KUBOTA sportsman win at Macon Speedway.  The winner of the sportsman feature qualifies for the Sportsman Championship race at the Springfield Mile. Roedel had take second place away from Tim Bedinger and set his sights on the lead. Using patience and a fast high line, Roedel passed Landers with ten laps to go. Tim Bedinger was with the leaders throughout the race but finished in third.
Jeff Graham made an impressive rebound. His sportsman was took a beating today in both the heat and the feature. But with some pit repairs and some tough driving, he turned what could've been a DNS into a fifth place finish. It's that kind of dedication that has him atop the sportsman championship standings.
Steve Ewing almost gave away a street stock feature win with a last lap bobble in turn two. But coming out of turn four on the top of the racetrack kept Ewing out of trouble. Terry Reed, who led going into the turn, got turned around coming off the last turn. Racecars piled up behind, except for Ewing who got away clean.

MACON -- The POWRi Midgets and MiniSprints ran the Dana Godfrey Memorial at Macon Speedway FRIDAY night. A huge field of open wheel cars ran the dirt of Macon Speedway. One of the more challenging tracks on the POWRi schedule, the country's fastest fifth mile usually sends some drivers home with a couple of dents.
Last year's POWRi Midget champion, Brad Loyet, won the Dana Godrey Memorial at Macon Speedway FRIDAY night. Loyet showed why he's one of the best, passing the only two cars in front of him in the first 3 laps.
"I talked to John Godfrey right before we came out. He said he wanted to see me down here. I'm glad we could do it for him." Loyet said.
Dereck King had a chance to win on the final restart. King slid his car up in front of Loyet. But the veteran Loyet passed him right back and drove on to victory.
King did, however, take the checkered flag in the Micros. King’s car ran smooth and fast around the high side of the racetrack. Second and third place finishers Ryan Langston and Ryan Guyett could only watch as King pulled away on every restart.
Veteran racer Marty Hiser had his car tuned just right in the BARBECK Communications Modified feature, winning his first race of the season. Hiser flew through lapped traffic that held up second place finisher Jeremy Nichols.
"I want to give these guys credit. You could just show them a door, and they'd let you go. It had to be our night." Hiser said.
Nichols was the favorite coming off a strong showing in his heat race, but couldn't find the speed to run down Hiser on his surprising run. Nichols finished two spots ahead of Jim Leka, edging him closer to an unprecedented championship in his first year of Modified racing.
Best fan in the stand driver Mark Tullis picked Donna Miller as his best fan, earning them both a $100 prize.

July 5, 2008....MACON -- Saturday night was Fan Appreciation Night at Macon Speedway. The stands were packed with fans and the pits were overflowing with cars. All the race events this week were made possible by Hickory River Smokehouse and the Cromwell Radio group. The Summer Nationals Herald and Review 100, rained out on Thursday, is rescheduled for Saturday, August 16th.

Thanks to Kenny Wallace and Ewing Auto Sales, Troy Craig from Decatur is going home with a new car. And the crew at Cromwell Radio gave away some fabulous prizes during intermission, including tickets to Country Concert '08, won by Carlee Beeson. Macon Speedway also picked out a few more qualifiers for the Tony's Tahoe Giveaway. Jane Johnson, Troy Hogar, Tom Lambdin and Sandra Gillaspie will all have a shot to win a brand new Chevy Tahoe on September 6th.

Tim Dudley, co-host of Tara and Tim in the Morning on 105.1 WEJT, got to take a ride in Macon Speedway's two-seat Late Model. Kyle Logue was happy to give Dudley a few laps around the country's fastest 1/5 mile. "I was too afraid to do anything. I was just hanging on for dear life." Dudley said of his Late Model ride." Tara Nickerson enjoyed watching her co-host fly around the track, "They asked me to do it. But I said, 'I'll pass.'"

The Chevrolet Late Model feature race was a fiery one-on-one with Kyle Logue and Jayme Zidar. These two Macon Speedway vets have been racing each other at the front of Late Model races for years. Zidar and Logue exchanged positions lap for lap until Logue finally pulled away for the win. “I gave him the lead. I just gave it to him. But then I passed him right back. That was a dogfight.” Logue said about his sixth feature win. Logue came away with victory and Zidar ended up second with Butch Smith right behind in third.

Jeremy Nichols’ brand new car has owned the high line the last two weeks. He picked up his third feature win in the BARBECK Communications Modifieds. Perhaps the move of the race had nothing to do with the lead. Mark Tullis spun out into the infield, trying not to lose too many positions, he rocketed his car back onto the track right in front of the leaders. Nichols slammed the brakes and dove to the inside to avoid a race-ending wreck. The Best Fan in the Stand winning driver Roger Drake chose Jeff Drake as his best fan, earning them both $100.

Hogan Grain/KUBOTA Sportsman points leader Jeff Graham won his third feature of the racing season. Mike Pickering and Scott Landers couldn't run him down. Dennis Vandermeersch took the #B99 Sportsman, usually driven my Tim Bedinger, up to fourth. James Hankins won his first hornet feature of 2008.

Mike Pickering got his street stock back to victory lane for the first time since April 19th. The #99 has been a regular sight for years at Macon Speedway and Team Pickering has that car back on the right track. Al Crawley has his street stock right where he needs it to be, he finished a strong second behind Pickering.

James Hankins and Zach Dodd each picked up a checkered flag in the hornets.

Heavy Rains Force Postponement Of Thursday’s Herald & Review 100 At Macon Speedway; Raindate Changed For UMP DIRT Summer Nationals Event At Morgan County Speedway

Morgan County/Macon Doubleheader Now Set For Aug. 15 & 16

MACON, IL – July 3, 2008 – Heavy rain overnight and into the morning inundated the famed Macon Speedway, forcing the postponement of Thursday night’s UMP DIRTcar Summer Nationals Herald & Review 100.

It marks the second year in a row that the high-banked, one-fifth-mile track’s marquee extra-distance event has been rescheduled by rain.

The $6,000-to-win Herald & Review 100 will now be run on Sat., Aug. 16, setting up a big weekend doubleheader of rescheduled Summer Nationals dates in Illinois.

UMP DIRTcar director Sam Driggers said that Morgan County Speedway in Jacksonville, Ill., which had its Summer Nationals show washed out midway through time trials on Wednesday night, has rescheduled its $6,000-to-win program for Fri., Aug. 15. Morgan County Speedway officials initially agreed to a raindate of Mon., July 7, but it was later determined that racing can not take place that evening due to preparations for the Morgan County Fair that begins on July 9.

Macon Speedway is the fourth track that has rescheduled its 2008 UMP DIRTcar Summer Nationals event due to rain. A fifth event, on June 21 at I-55 Raceway in Pevely, Mo., was canceled and not rescheduled due to flood waters that covered the track’s access road.

The Morgan County/Macon swing on Aug. 15-16 will be classified as non-point UMP DIRTcar Summer Nationals events because they fall after the series finale on July 12 at Oakshade Raceway in Wauseon, Ohio. But with each $6,000-to-win race sure to attract a large car count, they will figure prominently in the UMP DIRTcar Super Late Model national points battle that begins to hits its homestretch in August.

The Summer Nationals continues on Friday night (July 4) with a $10,000-to-win event at Tri-City Speedway in Pontoon Beach, Ill.

Daugherty finally breaks through with feature win

MACON – After a week of fair weather, Macon Speedway was primed for an electric night of racing Saturday night. The track hosted its annual Firecracker 40’s for Chevrolet Late Models and BARBECK Communications Modifieds. Feature racers were running were bigger prizes, ($1,200 to win Late Models; $600 to win Modifieds) and nobody was letting up. St. Louis Cardinals’ mascot Fred Bird was on hand posing for pictures and giving away some Macon Speedway swag. Macon Speedway also shut off all the track lights for the fireworks show during the intermission.

The Late Model Firecracker 40 was one of the most anticipated at Macon Speedway. Four Macon Speedway veterans, Kyle Logue, Cory Daugherty, Butch Smith and Jayme Zidar, gave the fans one of the best heat races of the season, running two wide and bumper-to-bumper. Now, all four were starting up front in the feature.

Cory Daugherty broke through for his first career Macon Speedway feature win in the Chevrolet Late Models. Daugherty picked up a cool $1,200 for the Late Model Firecracker 40. Daugherty's car outclassed the competition on the high line. Some pesky lapped traffic gave Kyle Logue to make a challenge at the lead, but Daugherty stood strong and led 39 out of the 40 laps.

"The car was perfect up top. And I would just drop the hammer on the straightaways and it would just go. I'm excited. I'm ready for fifty more laps." Daugherty said.

Chris Dick took advantage of the late wreck between Daugherty and Logue to move to second place and Dennis Vandermeersch finished third.

Dave Crawley took home a $600 prize for winning the Firecracker 40 for the BARBECK Communications Modifieds. Crawley held on to the lead throughout most of the race. He inherited the lead after Curt Rhodes had to exit the race early. Rhodes took the lead away from Scott Jones on lap one but had to pull off the track in turn two.

Longtime Macon racer Al Crawley has his street stock running. With a feature win tonight, his second of the year, Crawley has been near the front in every race since his return to the track. Crawley just barely beat out the #95 of Steve Ewing on the final turn to win.

The Sportsman feature was dominated by Mike Pickering’s #9. When Pickering’s high line is running well, there’s very little chance anyone will catch him. Jeff Graham held off a good run Rick Roedel for second place.

Mike Pundt broke the Joe Reed feature winning streak in the hornets. This marked Pundt’s first pro hornet win of the season. Bruce Dulgar was back in his usual form. Dulgar had been struggling after a rough wreck a few weeks ago, but finished second tonight in front of the very fast car of Joe Reed.

Jeff Gill picked up his second amateur hornet win.

RACING COMMUNITY SUPPORTS KYLE BUSCH FOUNDATION

(Macon) – On June 12, NASCAR Stars took to the track at Macon Speedway for a night of fun away from their normal NASCAR routines.  The Night of NASCAR Stars II was sponsored by US Army, celebrating their 233rd birthday at the track. On this special night of racing at Macon Speedway, there were over 15 NASCAR drivers in attendance.
Macon Speedway decided to offer their fans a once in a lifetime chance to ride with a NASCAR driver while raising money for a charity.  Kyle Busch graciously accepted the offer to be the driver who would take the Macon Speedway fan around the track for eight thrilling laps in the Macon Speedway two seater Late Model.  Mathew Johnson was the winner of a silent auction and won his chance to ride with Kyle.  Kyle was asked which charity he would like the proceeds to be donated to and he chose his Kyle Busch Foundation which provides assistance to a children’s home near Grand Rapids Michigan.

Kenny Schrader took the checkered flag for the win in the star-studded Modified feature in front of a crowd on their feet. The modified race featured most of the visiting NASCAR drivers and Rusty Wallace was on hand to help out with announcing the evening’s festivities. Macon Speedway is proud to be associated with such a caring racing community that cares about the needs of others.

Fredbird of the St. Louis Cardinals is Coming to Macon Speedway This Saturday Night, June  28!

(Macon, IL)  Macon Speedway is excited to be bringing FREDBIRD back to the track to thrill and delight fans of all ages.  Join us this Saturday night to have your picture taken with Fredbird.  Fredbird loves to come to see the fans at Macon Speedway so show your support for him and wear your Cardinal shirts to help him feel welcome. Macon Speedway will have a special surprise for all the kids in attendance.  Join Fredbird for a night of thrilling fireworks and watch as the 95Q firecracker 40’s light up the track.  The UMP Chevrolet Late Models and UMP Barbeck Communications Modifieds will each race in a 40 lap feature event with added prize money to each division. All other Macon Speedway UMP classes will also be racing.

Fredbird's Story:

Fredbird was born in April of 1979...from the day he was hatched, Fredbird loved going to games with Mom and Dad Bird. He loved the crowd and the game itself, (he also liked the popcorn, hotdogs, and soda too.) Before the games he was always playing around on the field with the players, umpires, and ushers. While watching the games he liked to have fun with the fans around him. One day Fredbird got up on the dugout and started dancing in between innings when they played music. Fredbird did this at every game and the fans loved it. As Fredbird got older he did more and more around the ballpark, dancing, and playing with his watergun, playing jokes on the umpires, and shooting t-shirts out to the crowd. The Cardinals noticed how much the fans loved Fredbird and decided to give him a life-long contract as their mascot.  Watch out, you might be next to be beaked!

Tickets for Saturday nights race are $15 for adults and children 12 & under will be admitted for free.  Don’t miss the Herald & Review 100/UMP Summer Nationals on July 3

MACON -- It was Miles Chevrolet Night at Macon Speedway Saturday Night. Along with a full show of Late Models, Modifieds, Sportsman, Street Stocks and Hornets, Macon Speedway ran  Box Car Race for the Macon Speedway Kids Club.

Kyle Logue won the Chevrolet Late Model feature on the bumper of Mike Hammerle. Logue was running the high line and ran into lapped traffic. Cory Daugherty and Dick Taylor found themselves back in contention on the final lap. But with two lapped cars in the mix, Logue finished the race following the lapped car of  Hammerle and Daugherty barely beat out Taylor.

Dave Crawley moved to the outside to pass for the lead win the BARBECK Communications Modified feature. Crawley started in eighth and passed six cars on the bottom of the track. Brad Crosby led all the way to lap 20, hugging the inside of every turn. With five laps to go, Crawley took his chances on the high line and found the speed to make the pass. Best fan in the stand Driver- Marty Hiser and Best fan- Don Manning.

Jeff Graham led from wire-to-wire to win his second Hogan Grain/KUBOTA Sportsman feature. Second place finisher Kerby Damery was working on the pass all race but multiple cautions held him back.

Blake Shelley pulled his first win of the season in the Street Stock feature. But the real racing action was for second place. Tyler Blankenship, Al Crawley and Brian Cassell all finished door-to-door on the last lap. Blankenship edged out the Crawley for the spot.

JUNE 14, 2008

MACON -- This weekend's festivities at were all part of the long Father's Day weekend. The Dear Ole Dad celebration gave away prizes to a couple of lucky dads. Fans also got to enter for their chance to Tony's Tahoe Giveaway. On Sept. 6, Macon Speedway will give away the brand new Chevrolet Tahoe courtesy of track co-owner Tony Stewart.

Macon Speedway also ran its annual Faster Pastor hornet race. Keith Jenkins, pastor of the Boiling Springs Church of God in Decatur, won the race after being spun out. Jenkins came from the back and won, but some would say Jenkins was a bit of a ringer.

"In the 80s, I used to race bombers and modifieds here. I've won quite a few." Jenkins said.

Scott Landers found all of the grip on the bottom of the track in the Hogan Grain/KUBOA Sportsman feature race. Mike Pickering's high line was as smooth as ever, but Landers' car was just too good on the bottom.

The MidWest Big Ten Late Model Series was back at Macon Speedway this week. The Late Models ran for $1,200 to win and to move closer to the $10,000 prize pool for leading in series points. Chris Dick and Kyle Logue collided vying for position as they crossed the finish line together. But the nose of Dick’s #22 Late Model barely beat out Logue. Both cars had mechanical issues through the race. The throttle stuck of Chris Dick’s car as he smashed into the turn one wall after winning the race. Logue was battling a broken brake line and was using the outside wall to slow himself down in the corners.

John Woodard’s car bounced to the outside, ran up the turn one wall and flipped over. Track crews rushed to his aide as racing fuel leaked out onto the track. Woodard crawled out from underneath his car and watched the crew flip over what was left of his Modiifed.

Jeremy Nichols’ #01 Modified took a beating all night long but held off the field to win the feature. Nichols lost a lot of sheet metal and broke a rod during a wreck in the heat race. The whole #01 team worked hard through the break to get the car race ready. But when Nichols, on the pole, stomped the gas to start the feature, the car didn’t move and Dave Crawley Jr. ran right into the back of the sputtering car.

“I was more worried about breaking the car. I knew Jimmy was behind me. I was taking the restarts slow just to trying not to break it.” Nichols said.

One of those restarts happened with three laps left. Nichols was nursing a broken car with a driver behind him with multiple track championships. Through all the damage, Nichols held off Macon Speedway legend Jim Leka and got the well deserved win.

Decatur’s Steve Ewing passed Troy Dodson for win. Ewing’s pass took nearly the whole race to complete, but only the last lap matters. Joe Reed is setting himself apart from the hornet field, he won tonight’s feature race putting him at five for the year. Jeff Gill won his first amateur Hornet race.

JUNE 12, 2008

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

MACON – Macon Speedway featured it’s first NASCAR Night of Stars of the season Saturday night. All of tonight’s events were sponsored by the U.S. Army, celebrating their 23rd birthday this week. NASCAR stars from the Sprint Cup Series, Nationwide Series and Craftsman Truck Series all came down to Macon for a chance at the fastest 1/5 mile. Track co-owners Ken Schrader and Kenny Wallace worked hard to bring home a huge field of drivers to run their very own Modified series. Along with Steven, Mike and Kenny Wallace, NASCAR stars Michael Waltrip, Kyle Busch, Bobby Labonte, David Reutiman, Michael McDowell, David Stremme, Jason Leffler and others were on hand to give the loyal Macon Speedway fans a show.

Even Rusty Wallace was on hand to announce a few of the races. ESPN and Speed TV both had crews at the track. ESPN broadcast there program “NASCAR Now” live from Macon and Speed TV recorded all the races for a future broadcast.

Matt Johnson from Dalton won the silent auction for a ride with Kyle Busch. Johnson put in a bid of $1,300 to take the Macon Speedway two-seat Late Model out with Busch at the wheel. The proceeds of the Auction go to the Kyle Busch foundation.

Track co-owners finished one-two in the Modified NASCAR star feature. Ken Schrader worked his way through the field. He had to pass plenty of great drivers to take the win on his home track. Kenny Wallace tried to stick to the bottom to hold onto the lead but Schrader had the high line down to a science. Steven Wallace worked his way up to third and David Stremme finished in fourth.

Buzzy Reutiman, father of David, led the race early, at one point leading by half a lap. But a flat left front tire dropped him back into the clutches of the field. Reutiman finished in fifth.

The local Sportsman and Street Stock cars were on hand as well. Mike Pickering won from the front in the Hogan Grain/KUBOTA Sportsman feature. Pickering had a huge lead on the field until lapped traffic allowed Joel Funk to catch up. But Pickering’s fast high-line was too much for Funk to challenge. Jeff Graham hung with the leaders and finished in third.

Decatur’s Al Crawley won his first race of the season. Crawley had a Modified feature win last season and is sporting a new Street Stock this year. Fan favorite Steve Ewing had the car to win, but the veteran Crawley knew all the right moves to keep Ewing in second.

June 2, 2008
MACON -- Sunday night's racing was marked by the appearance of NASCAR star Ken Schrader and the Northern All Stars Late Model Series. Some wet mid-afternoon weather delayed the beginning of events, but that didn't stop the crowd from packing the stands to their limit. Two lucky fans got to take a few laps with two great North All Stars. Kary Carter got to ride shotgun in a Late Model with Jason Feger at the wheel and Joshua Crawford got a chance to turn the track with former Herald and Review 100 winner Kevin Weaver.
All the way from Canada, Steve Arpin won himself a 20 lap Modified feature at Macon Speedway on his first try. Arpin baffled the competition by running a line no one had seen at Macon in a long time. Arpin when low into turn three and drove high toward the wall in four. Jeff Leka could never quite make the pass even though it looked like Arpin was opening the door on every lap.
"This is a beautiful track. I didn't think I mind could work fast enough to turn so many times so fast." Arpin said.
Arpin was in town to run a $5,000 to win modified race in Danville when his father was hospitalized in Indianapolis. With his father recovering from quintuple bypass surgery, Arpin has been racing his way around the Midwest including a feature win at Paducah Intl. Raceway on Friday.
Dennis Erb Jr. won himself a nice $6,000 prize for winning race number two of the Tri-Track Challenge.  Erb Jr. started on the front row and never looked back. Erb Jr. can now earn himself a $10,000 bonus if he wins the rescheduled third race of the Tri-Track challenge to be held at I-55 Raceway. Ken Schrader won the first Tri-Track race on Friday at Paducah Intl. Raceway.
Gibson City's Kevin Weaver worked his way up as far as second but didn't have nearly enough speed to challenge the leader. Third place finisher Brian Shirley earned his spot by winning the semi-feature race.
Racing ground to a halt with four laps left when Ryan Dauber's car stopped dead on the track and gallons of fuel poured onto the front stretch. Dauber escaped what could've been a disaster as track crews hurried to push his car off the growing pool of racing fuel.
Terry Miller pulled out a feature win in the Street Stocks. Miller had a good lead on the field through most of the race. Terry Reed and Steve Ewing were too busy racing each other for second place to take on the leader. Ewing made an aggressive move on the final lap. But it didn't pay off as Reed pulled away to the second place finish.
NASCAR legend Ken Schrader fell one spot short of qualifying for the Late Model feature race. Schrader moved from ninth place to fourth during the semi-feature, but only the top three got an invite to the feature.

NASCAR STAR KENNY SCHRADER COMING TO MACON SPEEDWAY JUNE 1

(Macon, IL) Macon Speedway owner Ken Schrader will be on hand at Macon Speedway on June 1 for the track’s first ever Tri Track Challenge. The Tri-Track Challenge will feature the Northern Allstar Late Model Series racing for $6000 to win along with the Barbeck Modifieds which have an increased prize money of $600 to win. The UMP Street Stocks will also have their chance to race for $200. Grandstands will open at 3 pm: with Late Models qualifying at 6 pm.

At the young age of three, Schrader’s dad Bill tied a cable from his go-kart to a post in the backyard of their Midwestern home. Schrader would go round and round in circles. When the go-kart ran out of gas, Schrader would ask his dad to fill it back up. Then he would start going in circles all over again. Schrader’s love of racing has only progressed over the years.
“I guess you could say that I have been dizzy ever since,” Schrader said. “I really don’t think it is an exaggeration when I say that racing is all I’ve ever known. I’ve been racing since I could walk, and it is really all I have ever wanted to do. To be honest, I would race everyday if I had the opportunity.”
Tickets for the Tri Track Challenge will be $20 for adults and $5 for children 12& under. If you attend the race on May 31 bring your adult ticket stub and receive $5 off the price of an adult ticket, no discount applies to children’s ticket.
We have plenty of seating still available for the Nights of NASCAR Stars at Macon Speedway. Adult seats are $25 and seats for children 12 and under are $5 for the June 12 & July 30 events. Orders can be placed by calling 217-764-3000 or 217-764-3200.

JUNE 1, 2008

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

MACON -- Macon Speedway welcomed back all the whole Hogan Grain and Equipment family to the track Saturday night. This week's show hosted plenty of fun activities along with all the racing action we've come to expect from the country's fastest 1/5 mile dirt track. The full capacity crowd was on hand for all the lightning fast dirt action. Plus, all the best drivers came to town, so many the pit area was overflowing with cars and crews.

The Raminator monster truck made its first appearance of the year at Macon Speedway. A few cars and even a motorboat felt the wrath of the Raminator. Thanks to the second Kenny's Car Giveaway, Mike Durbin from Decatur went home with a new 1997 Chevy Astro Van courtesy of Clinton Auto Auction. Zac Bunten, 14, won the second Kid Modz race of the season, his second in a row.

Eric Edwards beat out a huge 20 car field in the POWRi MiniSpint feature at Macon Speedway. Edwards proved himself as a Macon Speedway champion again by running in the lead for most of the feature race. The Stallard squad finished one-two-three with Derek King and Ben Wagoner finishing second and third.

The BARBECK Communications Modified feature was full of plenty of beating and banging. Buffalo's Jeff Leka won the race over his uncle Jim Leka, the four-time defending track champion. The Leka's took the finish but the real racing action was behind them. Several cars including points runner-up Jeremy Nichols were involved in quite a few close encounters during the race. Aaron Burcham dodged enough hot tempers and spinning cars to finish third.

In a race filled with plenty of caution laps, Jeff Graham was just hoping his car would hold together. Graham's car started pouring smoke in the first few laps. After winning the feature, Graham pulled into the infield so the Macon Speedway crew could put out the fire under his car. Second place finisher Scott Landers had the speed to win, but every time he was in position for the pass, either a lapped car or a caution would keep him in second. This week's race was first of three Sportsman Qualifiers for the race at the Springfield Mile.

Larry Russell Jr. was back in winning form in the Street Stocks. Russell Jr. went from fourth to first in a jiffy and never looked back. Joe Reed's been eating up the competition in the Pro Hornet class. Reed led by 20 points over the closest challenger going into this weeks race and extended his lead again with another win.

Even with just four cars in the race, Hornet Heat number one might've been the most exciting finish of the night. Fred Reed from Decatur went from fourth to first on the final turn. The top three contenders, Bruce Dulgar, James Hankins and Jeff Dodd, all collided trying to get through turn four. Reed made good use of the opening on the outside and barely beat out the spinning car of Dulgar.

Sunday, Ken Schrader we'll be coming to Macon Speedway for the third installment of the Late Model Tri-Track Challenge. Schrader won the first Tri-Track race in Paducah, but race number two at I-55 Raceway was rained out. If any driver wins two out three races in the Tri-Track Challenge, they'll receive a $10,000 bonus, along with the $6,000 to win.

June 1, 2008
ATTN Street Stock Drivers and Owners;

Due to some indecision by our National Sanctioning Body and a few tracks and promoter not enforcing UMP rules, Macon Speedway will allow cockpits in the street stock division.  This is a very hard decision and could be very temporary, depending on what and when UMP releases more information.
This was not allowed by UMP earlier and we will wait patiently as they sort these rules out and hopefully will give us all a very standard and enforced set of rules to run across the Midwest.

We would also like to clear a few things up also:
Macon Speedway officials nor Bob Sargent have a preference in this matter.  Obviously by watching the forums everyone has opinions, we just wonder how many have long term intentions.  We were simply trying to enforce the rules as they were presented to us by UMP many times.  It is solely our intention to provide you all the best possible place to race and enforce the rules we have.  We are aware many rules are not enforced at other facilities and we have even disqualified a car only for that car to load up and drive to another track and participate illegally.  We are truly in this for the long haul and believe that enforcing the rules fairly and equally is the proper thing to do.  We just believe in trying to make it as fair as possible for everyone involved and UMP told us that very clearly there would be no cockpits in street stocks, just as other sanctioning bodies do not allow.  Thus several drivers and owners abided by that rule and we thought it only right to enforce!
Now that there is some question we will wait and see.
In closing we would like to thank everyone for your support and apologize to anyone for any inconvenience this may cause.

The Feature Events:

Kyle Logue once again pulled out the feature win in the Chevrolet Late Models division at Macon Speedway as he had to come from behind to get past Jayme Zidar.  Looking loose early in the race, Zidar ran high and Logue down low which gave Zidar a sizeable lead until Logue went high and ended up catching the Wisconsin native.  By lap 14, Logue had once again regained the lead and he wouldn’t let it up.  “The high side was really good tonight,” said Logue after his fourth feature win of the year.

The Modifieds ran for a $750 first place prize  and Decatur’s Dave Crawley, Jr. also used the high side of the track to claim the victory and increased payout.  Crawley ran with long-time friend Steve Ewing but Ewing spun out which gave Crawley the lead which he would not relinquish. Best Fan In The Stand, driver Steve Phillips and Fan Sheryl Eckel.

In the Sportsman division, Taylorville’s Scott Landers had his second feature win in a row as he battled off Jeff Graham and Mike Pickering.

Tyler Blankenship won his fourth Street Stock feature, leading wire-to-wire.

MACON SPEEDWAY

MACON – A few early-week rain showers prepped the track at Macon Speedway for some lightning fast action Saturday night. It was Meridian School Night at Macon Speedway, honoring the students and fans of all the Meridian schools. Tonight’s racing also featured the Crazy Chicks in Cars race. Heidi Hames from Decatur won the all-female race to a standing ovation from the fans in the stands.

“That was fun. Before the race my leg was shaking. I couldn’t stop it. It was so exciting.” Hames said about her first time in a race car.

The Chevrolet Late Model race came down to the wire as Steve Sheppard Jr. just barely beat out Blue Mound’s Cory Daugherty. Three of the best Late Model drivers at Macon Speedway, Dick Taylor, Chris Dick and Daugherty made their runs at first place, but Sheppard held on.

Sheppard almost gave up the race when we ran into the back of his son, Brandon Sheppard, who was a lap down.

“I think he’s mad at me,” Sheppard said jokingly about his son, “I told him, this is Macon Speedway. This isn’t Talladega.”

The fans held their collective breath when Matt Moore hit the turn four wall and flipped his Late Model onto its roof. Moore crawled out of the car without a scratch. The same couldn’t be said for his racecar.

Springfield’s Randy Myers won his first BARBECK Communications Modified feature race. Myers was back at the track for the first time since week one of the season. Danny Smith of Argenta came close to overtaking Myers several times during the caution filled race.

“I would’ve had him if it weren’t for that last caution. Second place feels good. We’ll line up and get him next time.” Smith said.

Myers was a perennial underdog during last season, placing second five times in feature events. Myers was relieved to get that monkey off his back.

Scott Landers ran a great race in the Sportsman series. Landers pulled out into the lead early in the race and held off some tough competition by the best Sportsman series drivers at Macon Speedway.

Joe Reed and Bruce Dulgar were beating and banging on each other throughout the last three laps in the Pro Hornet feature. Reed held on to win his fifth straight feature event.

The Street Stock feature went to Tyler Blankenship, who earned it by holding off several challenges for the lead. Bruce Dulgar Jr. won his first amateur hornet race, ending the reign of Zach Dodd who had one every race of the season.

4-26-08 RECAP OF MACON SPEEDWAY
---------------------------------

Macon – Macon Speedway fans were in for a treat Saturday night as the POWRi Midgets and Micros came to town. Some of the best open wheel drivers flocked to Macon to continue there season long run at a series championship. The BARBECK Communications Modifieds, Street Stocks, and Hornets also put another round of thrilling feature races in the books.
One year after receiving chemo therapy, Scott Anderson came back to win the POWRi Midget race at Macon Speedway Saturday night. Anderson passed for the lead with just a few laps left in the race. Eric Edwards won the POWRi Micro Series race without much competition.
“This is definitely the best start to a season we’ve ever had.” Edwards said.
Argenta’s Danny Smith won his first career BARBECK Communications Modified feature race at Macon Speedway. Smith, a full time driver at the track for ten years, found himself in third place behind Brad Crosby and Jeremy Nichols. “I was just biding my time. They were setting each other up.” Smith said. As the white flag waved, Smith found some speed on the outside and passed both Nichols and Crosby, who were in a dogfight of their own throughout the race.
Larry Russell Jr. broke his losing streak by taking the checkered flag in the Street Stock feature race. Second place finisher Steve Ewing went too high into the final turn and Russell took advantage by passing underneath.
Joe Reed moved his winning streak up to three with another Pro Hornet feature win. The amateur hornet win went to Zach Dodd.

OPEN WHEELS INVADE MACON SPEEDWAY

(Macon, IL)   April 26 the POWRi midgets and micros will invade Macon Speedway and show their stuff as they try to conquer the 1/5 mile track.  O’Reilly POWRi expects a large contingent of cars to attend the POWRi National Midget Series races at Macon Speedway.. The weekend event marks the beginning of the fourth season of POWRi competition.  Come out to the track and cheer on local favorite Justin Allgaier as he tries to capture his first win in the POWRi series for 2008.  Macon Speedway will also play host to the familiar UMP Modifieds, UMP Street Stocks and UMP Hornets on this action packed evening of fun family entertainment.

Last season’s point battles in both divisions showed how competitive this series is, with the National Midget championship coming down to the final weekend of action. We expect the 2008 season to be the best season yet in POWRi competition.

Brad Loyet and the Loyet Motorsports group, who are coming off the “DuQuoin Winter Nationals” two-race championship at the Southern Illinois Center earlier this season will begin their defense of the driver and team titles in the National Midgets when the green flag flies at Macon Speedway.   This will be the first of four National Midget and six Micro-Sprint events in 2008. Brad Kuhn and A.J. Fike won POWRi Midget races last season, while Hoosier Ryan Leek won his first career Micro-Sprint race at Macon Speedway in August 2007.

While Loyet is one of the favorites to win the 2008 National Midget championship, he’ll have to fend off several other drivers for the crown. Kuhn and Mike Hess claimed multiple victories during last summer’s action and each held the point lead at some point in 2007. Young guns Daniel Adler and Brent Beauchamp, each who have made their mark at local Sprint car races in the Midwest, also expect to challenge Loyet for the title.

On the Micro-Sprint side, King ran away with the title last season, clinching the championship with more than a handful of races to go. However, King was a non-factor in either of the “DuQuoin Winter Nationals” races at the Southern Illinois Center in January and March. If he wants to win the 2008 title, he’ll have to fight off young drivers such as Jason Ormsdy, Jarrett Cathey, Todd Kirkman, Austin Laskey, Tony Roney, Daniel Robinson and Nic Harris. King is also expected to compete in select POWRi National Midget races in 2008.

The month of May looks to wow the crowds again with a Cinco de Mayo Fiesta Party on May 3, where we will host the first Kenny’s Car Giveaway, and don’t forget the first Night of NASCAR Stars will be held on Memorial Day, May 26.  The second Night of NASCAR Stars will take place on June 12, and will be nationally televised on Speed TV.  The Night of NASCAR Stars will then take place at Macon Speedway on July 30 for our third Night of NASCAR Stars when we will play host to some of the hottest tickets on the NASCAR circuit.  Tickets are on sale now so call us at 217-764-3000 for tickets to all three Nights of NASCAR Stars.  The Nights of NASCAR Stars are when NASCAR drivers are available for autographs and actually compete with local favorites.

Macon Speedway is located 9 miles south of Decatur, IL on US 51 then .6 miles west on Andrews Street, then south on Wiles.  For information, call 217-764-3000 (track), 217-764-3220 (information hotline), or contact us via email at [email protected].  Also visit www.maconracing.com or www.trackenterprises.com for additional information.

Both hornet divisions will abide by the same 2008 Macon Speedway rules, but the new amateur class will have a few added rules imposed upon them.  Hornet drivers may choose in which class to race but if an amateur driver wins 10 feature races at Macon Speedway they must move up to the pro hornet division.  The amateur hornets must be painted red or yellow, have a working horn and have a center brake light.  Macon Speedway will give the amateur hornets a few extra weeks to get their hornets new paint schemes ready and will not enforce the paint rule until June 7 at which time they will have to start the race at the tail end if they are not painted properly.
Macon Speedway is anxiously awaiting the new hornet classes.  The owners believe that this will ensure a fun and action packed night for both the drivers and the fans.
Also on April 19, the fans will get to obtain their favorite driver’s autograph at the driver-sponsor appreciation night.  Next up on Macon Speedway’s schedule will be the POWRi Midgets & Micros on April 26.

Macon Speedway's 1st Ever Spring Fling was a Success
MACON SPEEDWAY 4-5-08 RECAP
MACON -April 7, 2008- Macon Speedway opened its 63rd consecutive year of racing Saturday night with the 1st Annual Spring Fling. Racing action started with the return of Chevrolet Late Model qualifying. Brent Kreke of Lebanon took the top spot in qualifying, posting a 10.718 second lap just two tenths of a second short of the Late Model track record.
Norm Wood posted his first win of the season in the first race of the season. Wood took The Hogan Grain/Kubota Sportsman series feature by more than half a lap over runner-up Mike Pickering of Decatur. Heat winner Jeff Graham ran strong early in the race, but couldn’t overcome being set back by heavy traffic.
Veteran driver Jim Leka won the BARBECK Communications Modified feature. Leka was under pressure from teammate Jeremy Nichols throughout the race. “I tried to go high and low. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.” Nichols said of trying to catch the defending track champion.
Brent Kreke held the Chevrolet Late Model lead for most of the race before a wreck with lapped traffic. Local favorite Kyle Logue moved into first place for the remaining laps. Cory Daugherty needed help from lapped traffic to challenge, but couldn’t navigate the field and finished in second.
With a shredded left-front tire, Tyler Blankenship held on to his car long enough to finish the race in first place.
