Jason Feger Wins Jr. Kimler Memorial at Farmer City
Farmer City, Ill. (7/22/11) Jason Feger took the lead on
the 9th lap, pulled away from the field, and scored his 2nd
win at Farmer City Speedway in the 30 lap UMP Late Model race. Outside front row
starter, Ryan Dauber, got the jump on Mike Glasscock at the start with, Kent
Robinson, Feger, and point leader, Eric Smith following. After a caution on the
8th lap, Feger used a slide job on Dauber to perfection and put on a
clinic on racing the top shelve of the track. By the halfway point, Feger had a
straight away lead, while drivers behind him scrambled for position. Dauber
,running 2nd had his hands full with Smith and Robinson soon joined
in. the trio swapped positions several times, which allowed Bobby Pierce to soon
join in. With the laps winding down and Feger in control, Dauber’s tires started
to give out and he faded away. Robinson and Smith went at it back and forth,
with Pierce lurking in the distance. As Feger took the checkered lap and $3000,
Robinson made a last lap move to secure 2nd over Smith in a hard
fought race. Pierce, Dauber, Dennis Erb Jr., Joe Harlan, Scott Bull, Jimmy Dehm,
and Mike Glasscock completed the top 10. Harlan topped the 16 other drivers in
qualifying, while Glasscock and Dauber won heat races.
Multi time track champion, Jeff Leka, started the 20 lap UMP Modified
race on the pole, took the lead at the start and showed all why he is the man to
beat at Farmer City. In the opening stages of the race, Leka jumped out to a 10
car length lead with Justin Delong, Gary Turpin, Jay Ledford, and Cory Schwengel
in tow. After a lap 5 caution, Delong, last year’s track champion, made a brief
challenge for the lead, but Leka was able to pull away. Turpin and Ledford put
on a show for 3rd spot, with both drivers running the top of the
track. Turpin got loose at one point, allowing Ledford to get by. As Leka took
the checkered flag for the 9th time, Delong, Ledford, 16th
starting Lance Dehm, Turpin, Schwengel, Cole Hussong, Don Cox, Dave Baldwin, and
Mark Tullis rouded out the top 10. Turpin was the nights fast qualifier, while
Leka and Delong won heat races.
In the 15 lap UMP Sportsman race, Joel Funk took the lead coming off of
turn 4 with the checkered flag waving in the air, to pick up his 1st
Farmer City Sportsman win. At the start of the race, Funk and Dan Flessner went
at it back and forth exchanging the lead and sheet metal several times over the
course of the race, before Funk was able to secure the win. Flessner, the track
point leader took second, while Richie Rich turned in a good performance with a
3rd, followed by Dave Crawley Jr., and Troy Clark. Funk and Flessner
took the heat wins.
Joel Funk inherited the lead form Wayne Orrick on the 7th lap
and held off Darrel Dick, to pick up the win in the 15 lap Street Stock feature.
Orrick started the race on the outside pole and took the lead at the start.
Behind him, Funk and Dick battled for second, before Funk was able take the
spot. With Funk in second, he closed up on Orrick and made the pass on the 7th
lap. During a lap 10 caution, Orrick had a tire go flat and ended his night. In
the closing laps, Funk kept a 2 car length lead over Dick and held on for his 3rd
win of the year. Chris Dick took third, followed by A.J. Wright, and Jim Quinn.
Orrick and Funk won heat races.
Action concluded with the Hornet drivers in a 10 lap race. Kenny
Butterfield was able to lead flag to flag and took his 4th win of the
year. Matt Maier, Tanner Tibbs, Ben Gernentz, and Casey Gernentz took the top 5
positions. Ben Gernentz and Butterfield won heats, while Maier won a special
trophy dash.
Harland “Jr.” Kimler was one of the area’s businessmen and active
within the community. An avid supporter of Farmer City Speedway, Kimler passed
away in 2006. The family was pleased with the event and has plans to host the
race next year. Next Friday night, Farmer City will have a full race program,
with FAN APPRECIATION Night. All race fans will be admitted to the stands for
$5.00.

Sheppard Screams to Farmer City Summer Nationals Triumph, Largest Career Payday
FARMER CITY, Ill. - July 8, 2011 - Brandon Sheppard is quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with on the DIRTcar Summer Nationals Hell Tour after winning Friday night at Farmer City Raceway.
Sheppard of New Berlin, Ill., started fifth and dueled with current 'Hell Tour' point leader Shannon Babb of Moweaqua, Ill., over 40-laps to earn his second DIRTcar Summer Nationals victory worth $10,000. The victory was Sheppard's largest payday of his young career, doubling what he earned almost a week earlier at Lincoln (Ill.) Speedway where he won his first ever 'Hell Tour' event. Babb finished second, his eleventh top-10 finish on this year's tour which is four more than any other driver during the Summer Nationals. Jack Sullivan of Greenbriar, Ark., finished third to rebound from misfortunes at Peoria (Ill.) Speedway. Lawrenceburg, Ind., driver Scott James finished fourth, three-time 'Hell Tour' Champion Dennis Erb Jr. of Carpentersville, Ill., rounded out the top five.
Click this link for more news and information about the DIRTcar Summer Nationals.
With his second place finish Babb will extend his point lead to 135 markers over James, and to 213 points over defending DIRTcar Summer Nationals Champion Jason Feger of Bloomington, Ill., who finished 8th.
The DIRTcar Summer Nationals will return to action Saturday, July 9 at Clarksville (Tenn.) Speedway.

Farmer City Feature wins, before the rains move in and end the night early
06/10/11-There were 77 cars in the pits tonight at
Farmer City on what looked like it was going to be a rainy night from the start.
Word traveling through the pits at qualifying was that it was going to be
raining in 40 minutes. The rains did hold off for longer than that, but
eventually they arrived and washed out the Late Model, Sportsman, and Hornet
features. Track workers did a great job trying to get all the races in.
There were late models tonight and the young-ones set the
fast times. 99J Jimmy Dehm had the fast time for the night followed by 32 Bobby
Pearce. 99J Jimmy Dehm started on the pole in heat 1 with 35 Derrick Chandler
along side. 35 Chandler would go on to win this one with 9J Dehm finishing 2nd,
followed by 38L Ryan Little, 17G Bill Giannetti, and 44G Shane Garrison.
32 Bobby Pearce and 9 Eric Smith started 1-2 in heat two. 9
Smith went on to win followed by 32 Pearce, Z Joe Harlan, 6J Jon Janowski, and
DC3 Don Cisco.
The Late Model Feature was rained out this evening.

time for the night. In heat 1 75 Turpin and 31 Dave Crawley start 1-2 in this
one. Crawley would go onto win followed by Turpin, D1 Lance Dehm, 7L Jay
Ledford, and C12 Jeff Curl.
Heat two 3L Jeff Leka and 32 Dustin King on the front row.
Leka would go onto win followed by 7J Justin DeLong who moved up from 4th,
King and B97 Arby Burton.
Crawley and Leka started on the front row for the feature
event. Leka went onto win followed by D1 Dehm, 7J DeLong, and 31 Crawley.
There were 14 Street Stocks set to race tonight.. 16A Rick
Alwood and 38 Darrell Dick start on the front row of this one. 38 Dick takes off
for the lead on lap one and went on to lead every lap and win. He was followed
by 95 Travis Johnson, 1 Chris Dick and 16A Alwood.
50 Nathan McNeese and 46 Eric Wilson start on row 1 of heat
2. By the end of lap one, 82 Jim Quinn has the lead after starting 4th,
he would maintain the lead and go onto win this one. He is followed by 18C
Crawley, 11 Jeff Semmons, and 1C Robert Cotton.
In the feature 82 Quinn and 18C Crawley start on the front
row. For the first few laps there are like 5 cars fighting for the lead. By the
first caution, 1 Chris Dick has the lead. He would then end up in a battle with
his brother 38 Darrell Dick for the lead. They put on a great show and in the
end 1 Chris Dick wins followed by 38 Darrell Dick, 95 Travis Johnson, 18
Crawley, 16a Alwood, 19 Scott Thrasher, 11 Ronnie Burns, 47 Hugh Jonson, and 82
Jim Quinn.

the car on move in this one was 44 Rod Rusher. He started 6th and
charged to the front to take the win in this one. He was followed by 16 Nick
Macklin and 22 Darrell Dick.

Ryan Unzicker and Brandon Sheppard take double
feature late model wins at Farmer City
05/20/2011-A gloomy looking day turned into a great
night of racing at Farmer City. 114 cars showed up to race. Late Models,
Modified's, Street Stocks, Sportsman and Hornets were on the schedule for the
night.. Along with double features for the late models and modified's after last
weeks rain out. Ryan Unzicker set the fast time in Late Models followed by
Brandon Shepard. Denny Schwartz set a new track record while setting the fast
time for modified's with a 13.073.
First up was the Trophy Dash and this week it was for the
hornet. Dion Smith in the 2 car won it and 330 Chris Burton finished 2nd.
Then it was time for the make up Late Model Feature. 14
cars started the race, 7 finished as several left the track at different times
for apparent mechanical issues. There was one yellow flag for a car with engine
problems. 24 Ryan Unzciker took off and never looked back in this one and went
on to win. The race in this one was for 2nd. 32 Bobby Pearce and 83
Scott Bull battled it out before 9 Eric Smith joined in the battle. In the end,

two heats. The first heat had 10 cars and 50 Nathan McNeese and 18
Dave Crawley start on the front row. The 18 car takes off for the lead and has a
good one going when 19 Scott Thrasher and 42 Jess Simmons get together on the
back stretch sending the 42 car hard into the turn 3 wall bringing out a
caution. 42 was done and the 19 continued. Race restarts and 18 leads again for
a lap or two when the 19 car spins and brings out caution #2. Race restarts with
18 in the lead and 33B Doug Berbaum, 95 Travis Johnson, 1 Chris Dick, and 50
McNeese all racing for 2nd. Dave Crawley is leading and everyone is close
behind when there may have been some contact and the 18 gets a flat tire and
leaves the track. Race continues and Doug Berbaum leads with the 95 close
behind. In the end, Doug Berbaum drove the 33B to his first heat race win in
this one. Johnson was 2nd followed by Chris Dick and Nathan McNeese.
The 2nd heat started with 9 cars
but after the 2nd row wrecked into to each other at the start and
caused a big wreck in turn 1 only 5 cars continued. 23T Rick Thomas went onto
win followed by the 11 of Jeff Semmons and the 16A of Rick Alwood.
16 cars started the street stock feature, 33B

These four take off battling for the lead and in the end come into heavy lapped
traffic. B5 Brandon Sheppard goes onto win followed by 25 Feger, 24 Unzicker,
and 9 Smith.
3 heats of modifieds raced and 21S Denny

When you think about racing in Illinois, there are two tracks that are
always mentioned towards the top of the list, Farmer City Raceway and Fairbury
American Legion Speedway. In recent years both tracks have
been on the brink of closing. Luckily they have new life and both will have full
racing schedules in 2011, when it stops raining every weekend. Farmer City
Raceway has been given new existence thanks to Jeff Hammer and Kyle Logue. The
partnership will hopefully lead to much success for the Raceway and for the town
of Farmer City.
Jeff Hammer a Clinton, Illinois native has been race fan his entire life.
When his cousin Donnie ended his racing career and took over promoting Farmer
City, Jeff often helped. Today Jeff runs a contracting company. He was looking
for a challenge when his good friend Kyle Logue suggested the Farmer City
promoting idea. The men together decided with an improving
economy and families looking for fun events to take on the promotion of Farmer
City Raceway.
Kyle Logue has been a name heard in racing for over a decade around
Central Illinois. A fixture at Macon, the Decatur area local has won track
championships at Danville in a modified as well as three at Mighty Macon
Speedway. He has finished Top 50 in UMP points in 2001, 2002 where he finished 9th
with 17 wins, and 2003. In 2004 Logue moved into the Late Model class. He has
finished Top 50 UMP points in that class in 2004, 2008, and 2009. He won his
most current championship at Macon in the year 2009.
Front Stretch at Farmer City under the lights
Some people may wonder how a racer and a race fan can promote one of the
most loved and best tracks in the Midwest. Simple answer, they listen to others.
The twosome has asked other promoters for advice. Fans of course have
given them excellent suggestions and the two men are listening. Everyone wants
to see the track returned to the ‘glory days’ and then continue to succeed into
the future.
With the new promoters some improvements have been made. One important
upgrade, especially to us women, clean bathrooms. The track
itself has been restored to original condition. Money has
been spent on a much-needed new sound system, more lighting, fixed bleachers,
and FM radio. With the radio, you can sit in your car and listen to the racing
action. Still at Farmer City, great food and a jammed packed
night of racing.
The challenge of all promoters; getting fans in the stands, is already
being addressed by Logue and Hammer. They are giving away tickets to the local
schools for students doing well. Also, you can win tickets from local radio
stations during some of their contests. The track will
be having special events for Veterans and Union Members throughout the season.
Their website,
www.farmercityracing.com will be up to date, as will their facebook page,
check back often for event information.
Each night of racing either Friday or Sunday (rain date) will be action
packed. A regular show will consist of late models, modifieds, sportsmen, street
stocks, and hornets. There will be give-a-ways many nights.
Prizes could be t-shirts, gift cards, free food, gas cards, and even a few
surprises later this season. Special events for fans will be meet and greets
with drivers, face painting, and sometimes a bounce house. Mountain Dew night
will have free shirts and much more. The entry fee to most regular nights of
racing will only be $10 for stands with 12 and under free and $25 for pit
passes. Gates will open at 3pm with hot laps at 6:30pm.
Three-wide Racing in Modifieds. Photo Thanks to Double J.
The improvements are not just for the fans but also for the
racers. The track conditions will be faster and smoother then it has been in the
past. If it rains on Friday night, many rain dates will be that Sunday. The
payouts for each class have been increased thanks to some great sponsors. Check
back each week to see what your class will be paying.
Track promoters can only do so much to make a track succeed. It falls in
to the hands of dirt track fans like you to make it work. It is so easy now to
sit at home and save your money by getting updates via sites like Facebook or
the DRC. Unless you take your butt to the track, there may not be a race to get
updates from in the future. Show your appreciation and support for your local
tracks, get out there, and cheer on your drivers! Farmer City Raceway, Jeff
Hammer, and Kyle Logue want to see you in 2011!! Check back to their website and
facebook page often for updates and race day weather conditions.

Pharmacy, S & S Racing Parts, Sorrento’s Pizza, and Dovel Excavating.

“The Quiet One” Silences Farmer City Foes
Farmer City(4/17/11) Jeff Curl known as “the Quiet One”
claimed his first career victory and his biggest win Sunday night at Farmer City
Raceway. Curl took the lead just before the halfway mark and held off Nick Allen
for the 30 lap, $1000 to win, UMP modified special.
Pole sitter Jay Ledford wasted little time, as he took a
commanding lead over Devin Gilpin, last years runner up in UMP national points.
Following a lap 1 caution, 6TH starting Curl made his presence known
by moving into 4th challenging Allen for 3rd, with Justin
Delong following close in 5th. On the 3rd lap, Allen moved
by Gilpin into 2nd, as another caution fell on the field. After the
caution, Allen was able to pull alongside of race leader Ledford several times,
but could not make the pass for the lead. As Ledford was completing the 6th
lap, smoke bellowed from the car, bringing out the caution flag and a
disappointed Ledford was done for the night. It was learned; Ledford had a power
steering belt break and caused damage to the radiator. Allen moved to the lead
position, with Curl, Gilpin, Delong, and Brian Lynn in order. Allen held a 5 car
length lead, before Curl caught fire and began to battle for the front position.
Caution came out on lap 12 has Gilpin looped his car in turn one. After the
caution, Allen led the field before Curl was officially scored the leader on lap
13. Allen tried several times over the course of the race to retake the lead,
but Curl held on for the win. Jeff Leka earned a hard fought 3rd
place, with McKay Wenger, Jamie Lomax, and Justin Delong trailing. The remainder
of the top 10 was Butch Weisser, Brian Lynn, Ray Bollinger, and Guy Taylor.
In other action, Dave Crawley made it two in
a row in the UMP sportsman race. Crawley took a hard fought win over Indiana
invader Troy Clark, Dan Flessner, Darrel Dick, and Dustin Mounce. Kenny
Butterfield won the $300 to win special for the Hornet drivers. Andy Baugh(Mini
Sprints),Nick Bauman(UMP crate late models),and Terry Reed(UMP street stocks)
also picked up feature wins.
This Friday night the UMP late models return to the
speedway. Action will take place in the modified, Sportsman, street stocks,
hornets, and mini sprints. For children 12 and under, the will be a Easter egg
hunt with the Easter Bunny, along with other activities.
Farmer City Raceway 04/08/2011
As seen by Dee-Dee on the bus in Turn 2
Friday April 8, 2011 marked the return of racing to
the new and improved Farmer City Raceway. Jeff Hammer and Kyle Louge with the
help of other volunteers have spent tons of time working to improve Farmer City
Raceway over the past month. Their hard work has paid off and the place looks
great. There was a large crowd on hand (the fence row was lined from one end to
the other and the grandstands had a good crowd too). They put on a great show
with 113 cars in the pits, 6 classes of racing and the night was wrapped up by
11:00 p.m. Here's a racing recap of the night:
Late Models
33 late models on hand for the night with drivers
representing 4 different states. 24 Ryan Unzicker set the fast time in
qualifying with a 12.753. He was followed by Eric Smith, Brandon Shepard, Kevin
Weaver and Brian Shirley. Jason Feger had a gear problem in qualifying and was
unable to take his laps.
There were four heats for the late models. In the
first one 24 Ryan Unzicker started on the pole with 3S Brian Shirley right
beside him. These two put on a great race and in the end 3S Brian Shirley took
the win. In heat two Bloomington's Eric Smith started the 9 car on the pole next
to Bret Sievert of New Berlin, WI. Smith took off and drove away with this one,
he was flying around the track and took the checkers. Sievert finished 2nd
followed by the Young Gun Donny Walden. In heat three B5 Brandon Shepard and 35
Derrick Chandler started on the front row, but in the end 89 Mike Spatola drove
to the front after starting 3rd for the win, he was followed by
Shepard and 32 Bobby Pierce. In the fourth heat, B12 Kevin Weaver and 14 Kerry
Matthew started 1-2 and that is how the finished.
The late model semi-feature, which took the top two,
was a great race between the High Side Hustler 25 Jason Feger and M14 Brandon
Thrilby of Traverse City, MI. Feger was trying both the high and low side to get
past Thrilby, but in the end M14 Thrilby took the checkered flag.
In the feature, 3S Brian Shirley and 9 Eric Smith on
the front row. Shirley takes off for the lead. The man on the move in this race
