Capital City Clash at Heartland Park

(October 3, 2011) Buckner, MO - The Lucas Oil MLRA continues on with the Capital City Clash taking place near the end of the work week. Heartland Park in Topeka, KS will host the series for the final time this season on Thursday, October 6th and Friday, October 7th. John Anderson comes into the race as one of the favorites, having won three of the last four series races. In April, he was the runner up to Brad Looney at Heartland Park. Anderson has also assumed a 14 point lead in the Lucas Oil MLRA Championship chase. This weekend will go a long way in determining the 2011 Champion. There is a big field expected, as the races continue to dwindle down as the season nears completion.

Typically, this race has been held at Lakeside Speedway in conjunction with the NASCAR weekend at Kansas Speedway. However, Lakeside was flooded at the end of June, and the balance of the season was cancelled. Rather than let the race get out of fans and drivers routine, the Lucas Oil MLRA stepped up and found a one year home for the event. Next season it will return to Lakeside Speedway.

Kenny Wallace has confirmed his intentions to race this weekend in the modified class. The modifieds will be running open A Modified rules. Contact Ernie Leftwich at 417 684 1909, with any rules questions, for either the late models or modifieds.

The Lucas Oil MLRA Late Models will be competiting for $2,500 to win on Thursday and $3,500 to win on Friday. The modifieds will be running for $1,000 to win each night.

The pit gates open at 3 PM daily, with spectator gates opening at 5 PM. Hot laps will be at 6:30 PM with racing at 7:30 PM. Adult tickets are $20 each day. Kids 6-14 are $8 each day, with 5 and under free.Pit passes are $30 each day, or a two day pit pass can be purchased Thursday for $55. For more information about the event call 816 650 5063 or 816 305 6572.

Larry Phillips Memorial to John Anderson

(October 1, 2011) Springfield, MO - John Anderson swapped the top spot with RC Whitwell three times Saturday night en route to his first ever win at the Springfield Raceway in Lucas Oil MLRA competition. The win is Anderson's third in the last four series races. "I had to get up there on the wheel a little bit," Anderson said of his battle with Whitwell. "This is a fast racy little joint." Anderson gained a few points on Al Purkey who finished 4th. "We're having a great time with Al trying to race this thing out. We're doing really well right now."

For RC Whitwell, his runner up finsh it was his best Lucas Oil MLRA finish of the season. "I had a good battle with John Anderson there," stated Whitwell. "I wish I would have had it a little tick faster, he ended up pulling away."

Jeremy Payne was the evening's hard charger. After winning the B Feature, Payne raced to as high as 2nd, before finishing 3rd. "It was a good night," commented Payne. He started the 40 lap Lucas Cattle Company A Feature from 15th. "We just started so far back, with this competition, it's hard to get up there and win." The evening's final yellow came out with 10 laps to go. "I was really good the longer we ran. I hated to see that yellow at the end, my car just wouldn't take off."

Justin Wells, RC Whitwell, Jesse Stovall, Michael Kloos and Justin Asplin all secured heat race wins. Jeremy Payne and Evan Hubert won B Features.

Anderson Wins Cornhusker Night Two - Assumes Point Lead

(September 24, 2011) Greenwood, NE - John Anderson jumped to the lead from the outside pole to score the win in the final night of the Cornhusker Classic at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, NE. The Lucas Oil MLRA series regular also took over the point lead in the process. "We just needed to put the package together," Anderson said of his late season turnaround. "Me and Vinny are gelling real good. The boss (Team Owner, Greg Junghans) wasn't here tonight. We'll be glad to call him and let him know how this went."

Anderson was challenged early by 2nd place running Kelly Boen, until Boen was held up in lapped traffic. "Our car was real maneuverable," stated Anderson. "I had a couple different lines I could use if I needed to." Jill George suffered a flat with four laps to go, which forced a restart. Boen was on Anderson's bumper on the restart, but the Shop Quik #2 was simply the evening's dominant car. Anderson pulled away just like early in the race. The win is Anderson's second in Lucas Oil MLRA competition this season.

Jaosn Rauen made a turn four pass on Kelly Boen to finish second. Boen was third. Heat race wins went to John Hampel, Travis Dickes, John Anderson, Al Humphrey and Kelly Boen.

The Lucas Oil MLRA will race next weekend in the Larry Phillips Memorial on Saturday October 1st. This date is a makeup from the September 17th rainout.

Berck Wins Night 1 at Cornhusker Classic

(September 23, 2011) Greenwood, NE - Kyle Berck passed Jason Rauen on lap 9 and never looked back, as he cruised to his first Lucas Oil MLRA win of the season Friday night, in the Cornhusker Classic, at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, NE. "We have won several races with the SLMR Series and in the modified, but hadn't picked off a win in the open series. It's nice to do that, even thought it's the end of the year," stated Berck in AAA Missouri Victory Lane. Berck had several solid runs in previous Lucas Oil MLRA competition this year, scoring two 2nd place finishes and also a 5th place run. "This track's been good to me this year, and it certainly feels like home here. The car was really good on the bottom and the top."

The initial restart was waved off when Kelly Boen and Al Humphrey made contact while coming to the green flag. Racing was intense through the field over the opening 10 laps with several drivers swapping spots and others coming through the field. Joe Kosiski brought out the only other caution on lap 10, when he broke a tie rod. The cushion built in each corner as the race progressed. Berck found it and set an unbelievable pace in the final 15 laps. Denny Eckrich finished 2nd, and John Anderson was 3rd.

The night's five heat races were really good as Jason Rauen, Charlie McKenna and Kyle Berck all won from the 5th starting position. Kelly Boen won from 6th, and Al Humphrey went from 10th to 2nd. His efforts earned him the pole for the Lucas Cattle Company A Feature. Denny Eckrich also won his heat race.

Action continues Saturday with the final night of competition for the Lucas Oil MLRA and Dart Corn Belt Clash. In other racing action, Kyle Berck won his modified heat race and dash placing him on the pole for Sunday's $4,000 to win modified feature. Berck was on the track in four separate races Friday, winning each. Jason O'Brien was running 4th in his heat race and hit the wall going in to turn 1. His car flipped, but fortunately he was able to climb out of it and walk away from the accident.

Stretch Run Begins - Cornhusker Classic This Weekend

(September 21, 2011) Buckner, MO - With last weekend's rainout at the Springfield Raceway the Lucas Oil MLRA has sat idle the past few weekends. Well that's about to change as the series hits the stretch run. With races scheduled each of the next four weekends, it's about to get busy. This Friday and Saturday will mark the final visit of the season to I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, NE. The Cornhusker Classic will pay the winner $2,000 on Friday and $3,000 on Saturday.

Marquette, Nebraska's Kyle Berck currently sits 3rd in points and won this race last year."We flew Swartz Race Cars builder Audie Swartz in last season to help us and we're doing the same this season. We hope the success from last year's race will carry over to this year." Excluding the Silver Dollar Nationals where he had engine trouble, Berck has finished 2nd twice and 5th once in Lucas Oil MLRA competition this season at the Greenwood oval. "It's my home track and favorite track. We switched engines. We'll be running our Chevy. It's the same one we won with last season. This is a major weekend for us. We've always ran well in the Cornhusker."

There will be more than Lucas Oil MLRA action for Berck however. He will be taking part in qualifying for a $4,000 to win modified race, which will take place on Sunday at the speedway.

If Kyle is to repeat, it will be no small task. The Dart Corn Belt Clash series will be on hand, with their top drivers making a run for the win. Al Purkey, series point leader, has a new Hatfield Racing Engine he will be debuting, and John Anderson is coming off back to back wins. With only 30 points separating Purkey and Anderson the championship battle has all the makings of a good one.

The 2011 Cornhusker Classic will once again feature a variety of classes. The 3 day event to be held September 23 thru 25 at I-80 Speedway will pay out a purse of more than $80,000. Because of some late season schedule changes the Cornhusker Classic will feature a complete late model touring series program each of the three nights. Racing starts on Friday, September 23. It will also feature a complete super late model program co-sanctioned by the Lucas Oil MLRA and Dart Corn Belt Clash. Racing will start at 7 pm with Grandstand Admission for Adults $20. Juniors (6-15) $5 and Kids 5 and under free. On Saturday, September 24 there will be another complete Lucas Oil MLRA and Dart CBC show. Racing will start at 6 pm. Grandstand Admission will once again be $20 for Adults, $5 for Juniors with 5 and under free. Sunday night, the support divisions will run feature events, highlighted by a 40 lap $4,000 to win Modified race. The SLMR Late Models will also contest their season finale.

I-80 Speedway is located off Interstate 80 at exit 420, halfway between Omaha and Lincoln. The 4/10th mile dirt track is home to the NASCAR Whelen All American Series (NWAAS) on Sunday nights, and host several specials featuring touring late model and sprint car series. (August 16, 2011) Buckner, MO - This weekend the Lucas Oil MLRA will be back in action after a three week break. The series will co-sanction the Larry Phillips Memorial at the Springfield Raceway with the MARS DIRTcar Series. Late Season Schedule Changes

(September 2, 2011) Buckner, MO - On the heels of the Lucas Oil MLRA's last event, the AAA Missouri, State Fair Championships held in Sedalia , MO, the series has made some late season schedule adjustments. As first announced in mid July, the series will sit idle this coming weekend. There was a two race weekend originally planned for Friday September 2nd at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, NE and Saturday September 3rd at Heartland Park in Topeka, KS. The I-80 Speedway event was rescheduled as part of the Cornhusker weekend on September 23rd and 24th. The Heartland Park date was moved to Thursday October 6th, just ahead of the Lakeside Speedway weekend.

With Lakeside's cancellation due to flooding, this has left a small hole in the schedule, which series officials hope to have resolved in the coming days. Thunder Hill Speedway in Mayetta, KS has also decided to move their Thunder on the Hill two day event to September 23rd and 24th. The series has bowed out of this event, as it conflicts with the aforementioned Cornhusker. One thing is for certain, West Plains Motor Speedway in West Plains, MO will host the two day season finale for the Lucas Oil MLRA and crown the 2011 Champion.

Stay tuned to mlraracing.com and series correspondence over the next few weeks and decisions and details become available concerning the conclusion of the Lucas Oil MLRA season.

Anderson Scores First Win of 2011!

August 22 , 2011 (Sedalia, Missouri)

Leading all 30 laps in Sunday evening's Lucas Cattle Company A Feature, John Anderson earned his first Lucas Oil MLRA win of the season. "We know our team and we know we've been struggling the first part of the year. It's been coming around. I was probably overdriving the last few times out. This time I just calmed down. Anderson started 6th in his heat and won it to gain the most passing points for the evening. "It was the perfect night for us, we drew good, won our heat, started on the pole. You just never know, there's so many fast cars behind you. I just tried to cut out the mistakes. We were able to capitalize on a good car and good run.

Anderson has now won two of the last three Missouri State Fair Championship races. "It just fits me pretty well," Anderson said of the ½ mile Speedway. "Vinny has been working really hard. Boss has been giving us what we need, and not given up on us. He tells us to just keep digging. This is really the fruits of our labor over the last couple months."

With Al Purkey's 2nd place finish, Anderson gained 2 points in the battle for the season championship. He drives for Greg Junghans in the Shop Quik MasterSbilt. Their cars are powered by Jay Dickens Racing Engines. Sunoco Race Fuels and Turbo Car Wash also provide sponsorship support.

David Turner ran 2nd for the majority of the race and finished 3rd. Brantlee Gotschall, had an excellent evening finishing 4th and Alan Vaughn finished 5th .

The series will sit idle for the next few weeks. The next scheduled race is Saturday September 17th at the Springfield Raceway for the Larry Phillips Memorial.

Thunder Hill and State Fair Championships this Weekend

(August 16, 2011) Buckner, MO -

This weekend will be another busy one for the Lucas Oil MLRA as the series has two stops planned. Saturday will be a makeup race from May at Thunder Hill Speedway in Mayetta, KS. Sunday the series will close out the 2011 Missouri State Fair with the annual stop at the historic half mile speedway. Both shows will pay the winner $3,000.

For the 3/8th mile track in Mayetta, KS it's been a labor of love for the Conkwright family. Mike, Dave and their father Dean all partnered to purchase the Speedway in August of 2009. They gave the facility a complete facelift and helped out the track tremendously too. "We've almost completed our new suite tower. We put 280 loads of clay on the track and have done a lot of general maintenance," said Mike Conkwright. The speedway is 100 feet wide all the way around, with 10 degrees of banking on the straightaways and 18 degrees of bank in the corners. "Our racing was pretty good last year with two and three wide racing. This year we got rid of the progressive banking, and our weekly classes have consistently raced four and five wide." This will be the first of two Lucas Oil MLRA weekends at the Conkwright's facility. Thunder on the Hill III will take place the first weekend in October.

Sunday action will move to the Missouri State Fair Speedway in Sedalia, MO. Promoter Clint Brown has always loved the half mile Speedway in his hometown. "Whether working or watching I've attended the races there my entire life," said Brown. He got involved in the promotion of the fair races in 2005 and brought the Lucas Oil MLRA in to race in 2006. Also competing this weekend will be the ASCS Warrior Region Sprint Cars and unsanctioned A Modifieds. "Kelly Boen's win last season was kind of a change. The prior five seasons, Terry Phillips and John Anderson were the only two late model winners at the fair." Boen is uncertain, but hopes to run with the Lucas Oil MLRA this weekend. Both Phillips and Anderson are each looking for their first late model special event wins of the season.

Saturday at Thunder Hill, the gates open at 5 PM. Hot laps are at 6:30 PM with racing to follow. Adult admission is $15. Kids 6-12 are $7.50 and kids 5 and under are free. Visit them online at racethunderhillspeedway.com. Sunday at State Fair Speedway, pit gates open at 3:00 PM. The grandstand gates open at 4:30 PM. Hot laps begin at 5:30 PM, and racing is slated to begin at 6:00 PM. Adult entry is $18, seniors and military are $15. Kids 6-12 are $8, and 5 and under are free. Pit entry is $25.

Boen Sweeps King of the Hill, Again!

August 14 , 2011 (McCool Junction, Nebraska)

Kelly Boen streaked to his third consecutive sweep of the "King of the Hill" Lucas Oil MLRA event, at Junction Motor Speedway, Saturday night. "What a cruiser this thing was to drive," Boen said of his car. He bided his time early on before taking the lead with 13 laps to go. "I was being real careful. You hate to make a mistake early in the race. I was pacing myself, seeing if I could run good on the bottom or the top, as long as the guys weren't getting way away from me. I killed my right rear bumping around the bottom and had to move up. It was just a great race for us. We're really happy."

Nebraska veteran Al Humphrey paced the first 7 laps of the feature and raced in the top three all evening, coming home second. "We've been struggling the last couple of years trying to get some top finishes," said Humphrey. "We began to wonder if we really belonged here. I showed myself I can still compete with these guys. We haven't won one of these yet, but tonight we came really close."

John Anderson made a last lap pass on Al Purkey to finish third. "We've got a good car. I've just got to drive her. I made a few mistakes again, and I've got to clean them up." Disaster nearly struck Anderson early in the feature when he spun in turn two, while running in third place. He rejoined the back of the field and worked through the pack. "I knew I needed to be patient and stay out of trouble and pick them off. We we're going at a pretty good pace there, so I just kept it up and kept digging."

Al Purkey led 15 laps in the feature and finished fourth, while Dave Eckrich busted off his second consecutive top five, finishing fifth. Kyle Berck lost a drive shaft in his heat race and started the feature 22nd. In seven laps he raced up to 7th, where he stayed until a broken shock sent him to the pits for the evening.

Heat race victories went to Travis Dickes, Al Humphrey and Kelly Boen.

Boen pilots a Rocket Chassis with a Cornett Engine. He is sponsored by Road Runner Fabrication and Pannell Chipping. This is Boen's 20th career Lucas Oil MLRA win. He moved into a tie for 8th place on the series all time wins list. Boen has now won 8 of the last 11 Lucas Oil MLRA races at Junction, including the last 6 consecutively.

Next up for the series is a double header next weekend at Thunder Hill Speedway in Mayetta, KS on Saturday August 20th. Then, Sunday August 21st, it will be the annual stop for the Missouri State Fair Championships at the State Fair Speedway in Sedalia, MO.

Boen and Berck Top Two at Junction Motor Speedway

August 13 , 2011 (McCool Junction, Nebraska)

Henderson, Colorado's Kelly Boen won Friday night's Lucas Oil MLRA feature in thrilling fashion over Marquette, Nebraska's Kyle Berck. The win came by half of a nose for Boen. "I want to thank Greg Lee, he pieced this car together for us," Boen said to the fans following the race. "We hadn't been racing our own stuff for a long time. Now, we decided to go back and race our own stuff for a while. Terry Pannell, the guy that was letting me drive his other car, he's been such a great guy, and I want to thank him."

This was Boen's 7th win in the last 10 MLRA races at Junction Motor Speedway. However, it was his race car's first win at the York County oval. "It's pretty good," said Boen of his Rocket Chassis. "I've got to believe if we're going to win tomorrow, we're going to have to get a little faster. "Kyle made it a little too interesting at the end."

Berck was pleased with his performance. He now has three runner up finishes in Lucas Oil MLRA competition this season. "I got a little rhythm going on the bottom," Berck said of his late race charge to get around Dave Eckrich. "I kept eyeballing that top side. I wanted to go up there so bad, but the car didn't want to. That last lap I thought, he's protecting. He hasn't been up there. I just gritted my teeth going down the back straightaway and I said, I'm going to beat him off turn four. We needed about 50 more horsepower to do that. We had a good run. It was fun, I really thought I had him. That's as close as it gets and we'll try again tomorrow night." Berck firmly holds third place in the championship standings.

The 25 lap feature had several cautions sprinkled throughout. A lap 8 incident involving multiple cars, included series point leaders Al Purkey and John Anderson. Anderson received the more serious damage of the two. He went to the pits a couple of times for work, before retiring to an 18th place finish. Purkey had some rear sheet metal damage and stuck it out for a 12th place finish, gaining 14 points over Anderson in the process. This now pushes Purkey's lead to 34 points over Anderson.

Dave Eckrich had one of his stronger runs of the season tonight. He went from 5th to 2nd immediately, and wound up 3rd. Mike Collins and Travis Dickes finished 4th and 5th.

Heat race wins went to Dean Moore, Travis Dickes and Kelly Boen.

Saturday evening, action will continue at Junction Motor Speedway. Pits open at 4:00 PM and grandstands open at 5:00 PM. Racing starts at 7:00 PM. Admission is $15. Kids 6-12 are $4 and 5 and under are free. Pit passes are $20 for NASCAR members and $30 for non-NASCAR members.

King of the Hill Friday and Saturday!

(August 10, 2011) Buckner, MO -

Lucas Oil MLRA drivers are preparing for the annual King of the Hill race at Junction Motor Speedway this Friday and Saturday. For top series competitors, Al Purkey and John Anderson the event is all about the points, as they will fight it out over the final portion of the season. For Kelly Boen, winner of the most Lucas Oil MLRA features in 2010, it's not been a typical season. He has only raced a handful of times and only won one race to this point in the season. He'll be looking to continue his hot streak at Junction Motor Speedway.

The odds will be in Boen's favor. Of the past nine Lucas Oil MLRA races contested at the 4/10 mile speed plant, Boen has won six including the last four straight, to sweep the "King of the Hill" the past two seasons. "The track is real symmetrical so I can set up for both corners the same," stated Boen. "It's a real racy place. Anymore, I don't like going to places where you follow the leader. I can always find a way to race there. It's one of my favorite places."

Track owner Delmar Friesen deserves a lot of credit for making Junction Motor Speedway a memorable place for racers and fans. "Delmar and his family went the extra mile to put the facility together," stated Boen. "They put their heart and soul into making it the place it is, and that's why I enjoy going there to race."

Boen will be in his Road Runner Fabrication #07 Rocket. This particular car hasn't been raced much and has never been on the Junction Motor Speedway oval.

The "King of the Hill" is a two day event paying a separate purse each night. Friday August 12 and Saturday August 13 the pit gate opens at 4 PM, with the grandstand opening at 5 PM. Racing will begin at 7 PM. Adult admission is $20. Students 6-12 are $4 and kids 5 and under are free. Pit passes are $20 for NASCAR members and $30 for non NASCAR members. Looney in Victory Lane at Lucas Oil Speedway

July 31 , 2011 (Buckner, Missouri)

Thirty-nine cars were on hand for Saturday evening's Lucas Oil MLRA event at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO. Brad Looney visited victory lane for the third time this season in Lucas Oil MLRA action, and the first time ever at Lucas Oil Speedway. "Everything just kind of worked out tonight," said Looney following the race. This was his first $3,000 win in a chassis he built a couple of years ago. Looney sat on the pole, but it was Justin Wells who jumped out to an early advantage. Wells led until just past lap 20 when Looney got around him. "I knew I had to make a move soon, when I found something up there in three and four getting off the corner. I got too him and made the move. It all worked out."

A large crowd packed the grandstands for the Summer Shootout. "This is such a nice facility. What Lucas Oil does is just amazing. To be a part of it, and to win it with these boat races going on is really good," added Looney.

Jesse Stovall raced from ninth to second in only his third race out in a new Moyer Victory Circle. He now has three runner up finishes this season in Lucas Oil MLRA competition. "We're learning every time we come on the race track with this new car. I made a quick call to Billy Moyer right before we started. He told me a couple of adjustments. He made the car what it was tonight."

John Anderson in the Shop Quick #2, came from sixth to third and scored his second best finish of the season. "It was a great race," commented Anderson. "You could move, but you couldn't quite pass real easy. You had to wait till a guy made a mistake, and the guys up front don't make many." Mark Burgtorf had a solid night, winning the opening heat race and finishing fourth. 2009 Lucas Oil MLRA Rookie of the Year Matt Johnson had a great run advancing from twelfth to fifth.

Jeff Roth was the night's hard charger advancing from twenty-third to thirteenth. Point leader Al Purkey broke an axle while running sixth, ending his night early. The series will sit idle until August 12th and 13th with the runningof the Annual "King of the Hill" at Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction, Nebraska.

O'Neal Wins Inaugural Silver Dollar Nationals

(July 24, 2011) Buckner, MO -

Saturday night wrapped up the Inaugural Silver Dollar Nationals weekend at I-80 Speedway. Don O'Neal, driving the Moring Motorsports #1 MasterSbilt slid past Chad Simpson on a lap 32 restart to take the lead. O'Neal never looked back, leading the final 48 laps to score the $25,000 payday. "I got a good run on that restart and got close to him," said O'Neal in AAA Missouri Victory Lane . "He was going in high. He had to slow down a little bit getting high, when I got a good run there across the middle, and give him a good slide job."

For O'Neal, a regular with the Lucas Oil late Model Dirt Series, this was a time for him to get out of the MasterSbilt house car and into the Moring owned #1. "We haven't raced this car in a while, and to come over here a win this deal is a big thing. I've got to thank Larry Moring and Ronnie Stuckey and everybody involved with this racing deal."

The Silver Dollar Nationals is O'Neal's 6th victory of the season. He made headlines earlier in the year by winning the Dirt Late Model Dream at Eldora Speedway, paying him $100,000.

Dale McDowell, one of 10 MalvernBank.com heat race winners on Friday, finished 2nd in the 80 lap race. Brian Birkhofer advanced from his 20th starting position to finish 3rd.

Earlier in the evening, two seventeen lap, last chance qualifiers were contested. Kelly Boen and Jason McBride each earned victories. Al Humphrey, Dan Schlieper, RC Whitwell, and Denny Eckrich all transferred as well.

$25,000 to Win at I 80 Speedway

(July 28, 2011) Buckner, MO -

In the 23 year history of the Lucas Oil MLRA, the series has never sanctioned a bigger race than the upcoming weekend. The Inaugural Silver Dollar Nationals takes place at I 80 Speedway this weekend. The 4/10 mile oval has been a mainstay for some of the top regional late model shows, but this weekend's event is the biggest in Nebraska history.

The top regional drivers are set to duke it out for the $25,000 top prize with, $94,000 paid out in the late model purse. National standouts will be trying their hand as well. Billy Moyer, Brian Birkhofer, Jimmy Mars, Clint Smith, Dale McDowell, Don O'Neal, Austin Hubbard, Dan Schlieper, Wendell Wallace and Tim McCreadie are just a few expected to race.

A unique qualifying format will be used on Friday night. Competitors will draw for a starting position in two heat races. The second race will be an invert of the first. Here's the catch, you won't necessarily race against all of the same drivers in each heat. "It's a format we adopted from go kart racing where they run two heats," stated I-80 Promoter Ed Kosiski. "You race two nights at Knoxville to qualify for the final night, we thought it would be interesting to try this two heat race format."

The heat races will also pay the top three finishers, courtesy of Malvern Bank. The Lucas Oil MLRA and I-80 Speedway would like to thank them along with Al Belt Custom Homes for their partnership.

The USMTS series will also be in action, as they host their final two events in the Great Plains Region. Complete shows will be contested each night, paying $2,000 each to the winner.

Admission on Thursday, July 21 is just $10 for Adults, $5 for Ages 6-15 with 5 and under free. Pit passes are $30 or $20 with a NASCAR License. Bloomquist Takes CMH Diamond Nationals

July 18 , 2011 (Buckner, Missouri)

Scott Bloomquist took advantage of Steve Francis' misfortune, and held on to win the 5th Annual CMH Diamond Nationals Saturday night at Lucas Oil Speedway. For Bloomquist, this was his first win at the 3/8 mile oval. Francis held a straightaway lead when his driveshaft broke on lap 44. Bloomquist held the point for the final two restarts as action was furious behind him.

Tyler Reddick, in a Bloomquist Race Car, set fast time and won his heat to start the 50 lap feature from the pole. Reddick lead the first part of the race before Bloomquist passed him. With Scott glued to the bottom, Francis was strong on the top and blew by Bloomquist on lap 21. The event was filmed by Lucas Oil Productions, to be shown at a later date.

The countdown is on for the largest race in the history of the Lucas Oil MLRA. The Inaugural Silver Dollar Nationals takes place this Friday and Saturday at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, NE. This $25,000 to win, $1,000 to start, 80 lap race has the eye of drivers across the nation. To find out more about the event, visit silverdollarnationals.com.

2011 Lucas Oil MLRA Schedule Updates

July 2 , 2011 (Buckner, Missouri)

Lucas Oil MLRA Officials have made some changes to the remaining portion of the 2011 schedule. Saturday August 20th will mark the first visit of the season to Thunder Hill Speedway in Mayetta, KS. These will be two separate races with two separate payouts.

Simpson Tops Field of 54

May 30, 2011 (Buckner, Missouri)

Chad Simpson took his Brinkman Motorsports MasterSbilt to the Lucas Oil MLRA, AAA Missouri Victory Lane on Sunday night. The 10th Annual Alphabet Soup Race at I-80 Speedway drew a stacked field of 54 Super Late Models. Simpson won his heat race to start the feature from the 4th row. A back and forth battle for the top three race positions consumed the feature until Chad's brother Chris Simpson, who was leading the race lost a motor with just 3 laps to go. Chad was able to take the lead on the restart and hold off Kyle Berck for the win. Berck was fast all night, winning in his A-Modified earlier in the evening and sitting on the outside pole for the Lucas Cattle Company A Main.

Kyle Berck was followed to the checkers by Lucas Oil MLRA points leader Al Purkey. Purkey did not do well in his heat and had to race into the feature through a B Feature. Purkey started the A Main from the 16th position, when the caution for Chris Simpson with three to go came out, he was sitting in 6th. On the restart, Purkey went from 6th place to 3rd in just three laps. Kyle Berck ran in the front of the field during the entire feature, got high in turn two and lost 2 positions before working back to fight off Al Purkey and Travis Dickes for his second place finish. Dickes finished 4th and Steve Kempt rounded out the top 5.

Joe Kosiski had an impressive night making the feature through a SLMR provisional starting the feature from the back and taking the KRC Hard Charger Award for his 7th place finish. Kosiski finished just behind Al Humphrey in 6th. A great night for both Kosiski and Humphrey. Gary Christian in the 58X finished 8th, Tim Isenberg, a Lucas Oil Late Model Series regular finished 9th. Five time Lucas Oil MLRA Series Champion Alan Vaughn finished 10th.

Heat race winners included; Denny Eckrich, Gary Christian, Chris Simpson, Chad Simpson, Travis Dickes and Kyle Berck. B Feature wins went to Brady Smith and Al Purkey.

Purkey Wins Kuntz Memorial

May 14, 2011 (Buckner, Missouri)

Purkey wires the field to take back to back wins with the Lucas Oil MLRA! Fresh off of his win in Jetmore, Kansas, Al Purkey parked his 33 Purkey Auto Salvage, Shaw with a Hatfield Racing Engine in the AAA Missouri Victory Lane. Purkey led the race from green to checkers with challengers on his tail for each restart.

With Terry Phillips and Jesse Stovall battling for second position for much of the race Purkey was able to gain a comfortable lead under green. As the intense fight for second continues, the 21 of Billy Moyer moved from his 16th place starting position into the top five. Chad Simpson in Victory Lane at Lucas Oil Speedway

April 11, 2011 (Buckner, Missouri) Chad Simpson of Mt. Vernon, Iowa parked his Liebe Trucking MasterSbilt #25 in the Lucas Oil MLRA, Triple A Victory Lane after the 40 lap main event Saturday night. A beautiful and hot early spring day greeted the Lucas Oil MLRA at Lucas Oil Speedway with a spectacular field of 55 late models packing the pit area for the track's opening night.

Five heat races and three B Features took the fastest 22 cars, plus 2 series provisional drivers to make the 24 car field for Lucas Cattle Company A Feature. Heat race winners included, Jeremy Payne, Nick Marolf, Terry Phillips, Jesse Stovall and Saturday's winner, Chad Simpson. B Feature wins went to, Tony Jackson Jr., Dave Eckrich and Ronnie Lee Hollingsworth. The series awarded provisional start positions to Joe Kosiski and Bill Koons.

The Lucas Cattle A Feature went 34 laps before a caution would slow the field. Simpson would restart with top contenders on his tail. Simpson was able to pull away from the field and remain out front for the win.  Jesse Stovall, Brandon McCormick, Jeremy Payne and Terry Phillips completed the top five. The win for Simpson is his second Lucas Oil MLRA series win in as many years.

With Stovall's second place finish he topped the early season points standings. Stovall's #00 Rushin Towing and Swafford Service Shaw Race Car has kicked off the 2011 Lucas Oil MLRA season with three solid top ten finishes. Looney Wins Again!

April 8, 2011 (Buckner, Missouri) Brad Looney's Federal Protection, Victory Circle by Moyer landed in the Lucas Oil MLRA Triple A Victory Lane for the second time in 2011. Looney lead from start to finish in the Spring Meltdown at I-80 Speedway last weekend, and lead all but one lap Friday night. Looney won his heat race at HPT.com Speedway in Topeka, Kansas to start the feature on the pole.

Looney did not breeze into victory lane. Four yellow flags in four laps slowed the pace at first, but the final 31 laps were contested caution free. John Anderson made a charge off of turn two, late in the race, above Looney and briefly took the lead. Looney then changed his line and battled back to the front. The action was feverish between Purkey, who was the night's KRC Hard Charger advancing from 18th to 3rd, Stovall, Phillips, Jackson Jr. and Whitwell. These five were several lengths back from the top two cars but, battled for the duration in and around lapped traffic.

Heat race winners included, RC Whitwell, John Anderson, Brad Looney, Chris Simpson and Terry Phillips. The top 16 drivers of the 41 late models in the pits started the Lucas Cattle Company A Feature. Three drivers would transfer from each of two B Features. In the Sunoco Race Fuels B Feature, Bill Koons, Delbert Smith and Denny Eckrich would take the top three places to advance to the feature event. The Hoosier Racing Tire B Feature number two, would find Al Purkey, David Turner and Kyle Berck up front to take the next three spots. Series provisional the 58 of Dave Eckrich and the 50 of Joe Kosiski.

Looney Wins Season Opener

April 2, 2011 (Buckner, Missouri) Brad Looney held a strong and fast line around I-80 Speedway in the Lucas Oil MLRA season opener Saturday night, to top the field of 48 super late models.  Looney of Republic, Missouri, finished second in the Lucas Oil MLRA points in 2010 without winning a feature event. 2011 started off with a bang at the Spring Meltdown in Greenwood, Nebraska for Looney, with his second career MLRA win. Looney drives the Federal Protection, Victory Circle by Moyer #14 with a Hatfield Racing Engine. Brad's win Saturday also locks him into the Silver Dollar Nationals at I-80 Speedway in July. In the Triple A Victory Lane, Looney thanked his family and sponsors for their support.

The Spring Meltdown brought 48 of best drivers in the Midwest to I-80 Speedway. The stacked field made for plenty of racing action all evening long. Five heat races set the lineup for the feature event and two B features. Heat race victories went to, Travis Dickes, David Turner, Jake Meier, John Anderson and Denny Eckrich. The top 16 drivers in passing points went on to the Lucas Cattle A Main, while the remaining drivers battled for the  top three finishing spots in each of two B Features.

In B Feature #1, Chad Simpson, RC Whitwell and Bryant Goldsmith earned starting positions in the feature. B Feature #2 sent Mike Collins, Bill Leighton and Jason O'Brien onto the main event.

Series provisional starting spots were awarded to Justin Asplin in the 77A  and the 58E of Dave Eckrich. Two track provisionals were awarded to Joe Kosiski and Mike Wiarda.

Twenty-six drivers took the green flag for thirty-five laps. A caution on lap three sent the 00 of Jesse Stovall to the back of the pack. Stovall worked his way back to a 9th place finish. Another yellow flag on lap eight gave John Anderson's Shop Quik team enough time to change a flat tire and tag the back of the field before the restart. A battle ensued as Kyle Berck charged from the 14th place starting position to 3rd place in less than ten laps. Berck would continue to run side by side with Chris Simpson in the 32 for the rest of the feature before overtaking Simpson just before the checkers flew. 2011 Rookie of the Year Contenders

(March 28, 2011) Buckner, MO -Story contributed by Trenton Berry/RacinDirt.com-

The start of 23rd Lucas Oil MLRA season this Saturday night at Nebraska Raceway Park, brings an eager group of newcomers. These drivers will be vying for the series Rookie of the Year honors. Joe Walkenhorst, Billy Koons Jr, Dustin Walker, Jason Pursley and Dustin Reeh have all declared their intentions to run for Rookie of the Year. For some of the above mentioned it will be their first competition in a dirt late model, while others have competed in spec and crate motor competition.

Joe Walkenhorst resides in Lee's Summit, MO and has competed in the sport for 10 years. In previous seasons, he has competed in several ULMA events. In 2011 Walkenhorst will be driving a Swartz Chassis with a Rick Darling Engine providing the power. "We want to make the races and be able to learn for the future," stated Walkenhorst. During Joe's first season at Central Missouri Speedway he competed in the Limited Late Model class. One memorable race night, Joe started the feature in the back and worked his way to the front. Once there he was involved in a wreck with the leader and went to the back. After the restart he charged through the field again for his first feature win. The win was the first of Joe's career and now a memorable story. Joe receives sponsorship from Swartz Race Cars, Metroplex Supply, KC Dent, Rick Darling Performance and USA Signs. His parents have also been instrumental in his racing program throughout his career.

Billy Koons Jr. is the youngest rookie in terms of age, at only 19 years old. Residing in Omaha, NE, this will be his first full season in a super late model. Koons Jr. will be the primary driver for BK Motorsports this season. "Our team's focus in 2011 is to make Billy Jr. the Rookie of the Year," stated team owner and father Bill Koons. "We worked all winter to improve Billy's program and Crew Chief Brian Larimore has been huge for our team. Billy is the future of BK Motorsports." For Billy this will be his fourth year behind the wheel. Previously he was the 2007 Rookie of the Year at Junction Motor Speedway in the Late Model class. Nebraska Raceway Park was the site of his first Late Model win in 2009. Billy will be driving the #51 Shaw by LSB with sponsorship from Billy's Cafe's, Integra Shocks, VP Race Fuels, Port City Racing and Fast Track Photos.

Dustin Walker, like Walkenhorst, has raced in the ULMA Late Model division in the past and has taken huge steps in the off season to prepare two open late models for competition this summer. Walker will be driving the #14W Hatfield Racing Engines powered Rocket. Walker started racing from his Peculiar, MO shop in 2002 at the Adrian Speedway and then at Butler Motor Speedway in 2003. He first competed in Street Stocks and then the Modifieds where he still finds time to run a hand full of races. Walker's sponsorship comes from W&W Utility Construction. "I'm looking forward to racing this season at several new tracks," stated Walker. "I hope we don't tear up too much equipment and make the majority of the shows."

Driving Walker's other late Model will be Wheatland, Missouri's modified veteran, Jason Pursley. Pursley has competed weekly at Lucas Oil Speedway and prior at Wheatland Raceway every season except the track's first. He has won 18 feature races as well as, modified track championships at Dallas County Speedway and Springfield Raceway. The Hatfield powered Rocket also carries sponsorship from W&W Utility Construction. For Pursley, the first time he ever hit the track in a late model was two weekends ago at Heartland Park Topeka's practice day. "This will be a new experience for me," commented Pursley. "I'm really looking forward to the opportunity Dustin gave me. It will also be neat to meet new people throughout the season."

Dustin Reeh, form Missouri Valley, IA is the final Rookie of the Year contender. Reeh started his career in 1987 in go karts and progressed to full size cars in 1997, before moving onto dirt late models in 2008. "The MLRA schedule fits good with what's close for us," said Reeh. "It also helps that the series races on the weekends. I'm excited to race several new places." For Reeh, he considers Nebraska Raceway Park his home track. His biggest race win so far was the Tiny Lund Memorial in '97. His #19 Swartz Race Car is sponsored by Amazing Energy, George's Parts & Etc., Ultimate Racing Products, Brothers Farms, TotalPeroformanceParts.com, Lance A. Baldwin Lubricants and BatteryRepairExpress.com .
