Champions Decided on Final Night with Lite Beer Make-ups

(Macon, IL) The 65th season of racing came to a close Thursday night with the make-up of the September 18 Lite Beer Twin 50s at historic Macon Speedway. UMP Late Models and Modifieds competed for 50 laps of grueling racing. UMP Street Stocks and Pro Hornets raced to championships and three other divisions competed to end the year.
 
 
 
Ryan Unzicker and Steve Lance, Jr. both competed as champions in the Lite Beer 50-lapper for the UMP Late Models. Racing side-by-side for the final ten laps before lapped traffic caught up to them bringing along a near photo finish. Unzicker controlled the race from the early goings before giving way to Lance, who began dominating the now slick dirt track. Unzicker, who appeared to be cooling his tires, caught back up to Lance and dashed back to battle for the top spot and the $1,500-to-win first-place prize.
 
 
 
As the drivers came out of the final turn to the double checkered flag by flagman Joey Webb, Unzicker had passed the line before Lance to get the win. The race, a part of the ten-race, three-track Midwest Big Ten Series, was one of the best of the series. Lance was the winner of the series and will win the largest portion of the $10,000 point fund.
 
 
 
St. Charles, Mo., native Mike Hammerle won the Macon Speedway UMP Late Model track championship. For him, it was his second title in four years, last winning 2007. Hammerle never won a feature in the 2010 season but raced and completed every Late Model event. Finishing second in the points standings in Indiana native Jim Moon, who also raced in every Late Model event.
 
 
 
Danny Smith of Argenta took top honors in the UMP Modified Lite Beer 50-lapper. He was closing in on leader and champion Dave Crawley, Jr. midway through the event but Crawley smacked the wall and flattened a tire to force a caution. He would go to the back of the field to give Smith the advantage and he would take his only feature win of 2010 and he started 14th in the feature.
 
 
 
Larry Russell, Jr. won the UMP Street Stock feature and thus gave him the 2010 Street Stock championship, his third at Macon Speedway. He started the evening with a 32-point lead on Mike Pickering, a former multi-time champ, and led all 12 laps to claim the checkered flag.
 
 
 
Dave Crawley, Jr. took control of the Touchstone Energy Sportsman feature and the division, easily taking the 2010 championship. The feature win, his ninth, capped an incredible season.
 
 
 
The UMP Pro Hornet Division had the closest points race with Fred Reed, Jr. leading 2009 Amateur Hornets champion Sam McCoy by a slim four points. Reed started the feature event on the pole and McCoy from the middle of the pack. Close racing between Eric and Jim Wilson, along with Michael Webb and Reed brought along an exciting finish as Reed finished the race in first by mere inches in front of Jim Wilson. Reed won his first championship in his career.
 
 
 
The Amateur Hornet championship was wrapped up before the night began as Jonathan Drake came in with a 100-point lead over Michael Gossett. The feature win would go to Kyle Maxwell, his fourth in 2010.
 
 
 
Also in action were the High School Hornets and Dalton Jacobs, a 13-year-old from Warrensburg-Latham won for the first time.

Rain Dominates Saturday Season Finale

(Macon, IL) The Doppler was coated with green across central Illinois for the better part of Saturday afternoon-into-evening and with skies threatening, rain held off long enough to get in the beginning of the final Saturday race of the 2010 season at Macon Speedway.

POWRi Midgets and Micro Sprints were welcomed to the track once again by the threat of rain and Mother Nature delivered with the steady persistent showers after the August 20 make-up feature for the Micros was completed and won by Ryan Guyett, who would also win the final race of the night in the POWRi Micro Sprints.

Shortly after 7:30pm, the sprinkles were felt and didn’t let up. It led to shower which erased the dirt track from a raceable track into a slippery mudpit. The evening was able to get in UMP Street Stocks and POWRi Midget heats accomplished and nearly completing the POWRi Micro Sprints before the wet stuff ruined another POWRi show.

Macon Speedway has suffered the same fate two weeks in a row as the Mueller Distributing Lite Beer Twin 50s were postponed with only one heat race left leading to semi-features and the A-Main feature races. This week, three UMP divisions were unable to take to the track for their qualifying heats.

Macon Speedway and POWRi encourage fans attending the show to control to hold onto their entrance tickets and/or armbands as rain checks if a make-up date can be rescheduled. Macon Speedway has already announced Thursday, September 30, as the make-up date for the Lite Beer Twin 50s event, as fans returning with their entrance tickets and/or armbands will be allowed to re-enter the facility at no cost.

The Lite Beer Twin 50s event make-up will begin at 7:30pm on Thursday, September 30, with all classes racing which include UMP Late Models, Modifieds, Sportsman, Street Stocks, Pro, Amateur and High School Hornets.

MACON SPEEDWAY’S MIDWEST BIG TEN STREET STOCK SERIES PRESENTED BY DECATUR USED CARS CROWNS WINNER FOR 2010!
(Macon, IL) Macon Speedway is excited to announce with the help of Decatur Used Cars that the Big Ten Street Stock Series has concluded for 2010 and crowns Terry Miller of Lincoln, IL the champion. Terry competed in all ten events held throughout the season compiling 5 top 5 finishes including one feature win. Terry took the first place title by edging out Larry Russell by 20 points. Larry Russell had two features wins in the series but didn’t have enough points to take over first place. Rounding out the top five are Kevin Crowder, Tom Reich and Tyler Blankenship. The series had 82 competitors but only one, Terry Miller competed in all 10. Larry Russell, Travis Walbaum and Davey Crawley Jr all three posted two feature wins during the series. The other feature winners were, Kevin Crowder, Tyler Blankenship and Roger Smith.
This was the first year in existence for the Midwest Big Ten Series brought to you by Decatur Used Cars. The series started last year by offering a bonus for the UMP Late Models for competing in ten races held at three different tracks. This year the series was extended to include the Street Stocks with a $3,000 point fund up for grabs. Jacksonville Speedway and Shepp’s Speedway were the other two tracks that were part of both series. The UMP Late Model Midwest Big Ten Series still has one event left to go which will take place on September 30 for the makeup feature for the Miller Lite Beer Twin 50’s.

MACON SPEEDWAY FEATURES POWRI MIDGETS & MICROS THIS SATURDAY NIGHT, SEPTEMBER 25

(Macon, IL) The POWRi presented by Speedway Motors National Midget and 600cc Outlaw Micro Sprint Series makes their final visit of the 2010 season on Saturday September 25th at Macon Speedway in Macon, IL. The evening will commence with the 20 lap 600cc Micro Sprint feature that was to be made up from the August event. Rain had taken over the speedway just before the Micro's were to take the track. Following the makeup feature a full program of both National Midgets and Micros will take place. Also racing Saturday night will be the UMP Modifieds, Street Stocks and Pro and Amateur Hornets.
Brad Loyet of Sunset Hills, MO will take a healthy lead in the midget point standings heading into the event with Austin Brown, Brad Kuhn, Zach Daum and Daniel Adler rounding out the top five. Loyet seeks his second POWRi Championship of his career after claiming the series title in 2006. The 600cc Micro Sprint battle is still hot with Andrew Felker of Carl Junction, MO holding a slim point lead over hometown favorite Jeremy Camp of nearby Blue Mound, IL. Both competitors are seeking their first POWRi Championship of their careers. Both features will help determine who will wear the POWRi crown with just one more event remaining on the schedule after the Macon events. Davey Crawley Jr holds a lead over Mark Tullis by 114 points but with two nights of points for the UMP Modifieds still on the schedule that race is still unsettled. Larry Russell in his X7 Street Stock leads Mike Pickering by 32 points, so the next two races will be crucial for Larry to hold off Mike for the Champion title in the UMP division. The tightest race of all will be in the Pro Hornet division as Fred Reed Jr leads Sam McCoy by a mere 4 points. It will all come down to the last few weeks of racing for these divisions to see who will be crowned champion for 2010.
Tickets for Saturday night’s racing event will be $15 for adults and children 12 & under will be admitted for free. Pit passes will be $30 for the event. Don’t miss your last chance of 2010 to see the POWRi Midgets & Micros at Macon Speedway this Saturday night!!

GEORGE MUELLER DISTRIBUTING MILLER LITE BEER TWIN 50’S, SATURDAY- SEPT 18 FEATURING TWO 50 LAP FEATURES & BIG TEN LATE MODEL EVENT!


(Macon, IL) George Mueller Distributing will be the sponsor for the Lite Beer Twin 50’s. The evening will consist of two 50 lap features, one for the UMP Late Model division and the other for the UMP Modified division. Macon speedway is proud to be giving both divisions an increase in their weekly feature payout. The Late Models will be racing back to the checkered for $1,500 to win, while the UMP Modifieds will battle for $750 to win. Racer Races his way to World Championship in Hornets

(Macon, IL) Easter Seals presented the World Hornet Championship at Macon Speedway Saturday night with a $500-to-win prize which saw 33 4-cylinder Pro Hornets race. At the end of the 20 laps, a first-time-ever driver to the historic dirt track claimed the trophy and right to be known as the 2010 World
Champion of Hornets.

14-year-old Dayton Racer of St. Genevive, Mo., made his first trip to Macon Speedway a memorable one with the championship. Trailing David Lauritson in the early going, Racer took the lead from Lauritson on the seventh lap coming out of the second turn and would not look back for the rest of the race. Putting
lapped cars between himself and Lauritson and the rest of the field, Racer would take the final 13 laps and win.

The Amateur Hornets completed their feature race from last week when Jerad Matherly struck the wall and needed to be taken away in the ambulance. Surprisingly, Matherly made his return at the World Hornet Championship in the same car which was destroyed the previous week. He would start in the back of the field and work his way up but would not catch the leader and eventual winner
Jeremy Gentry. The second Amateur Hornet feature would go to Adam Webb, his third of the year, as he took over entering the fourth turn of the final lap when Matherly, who was leading, cut a tire and lost the lead.

The fans were treated to a second bonus of the night with a bonus Modified make-up feature from the August 20th rainout during a POWRi show. Taylorville’s Mark Tullis would race along with Randy Huffman for nearly the entire race before pulling away for his third feature of 2010. Dave Crawley, Jr., who has been incredible this season in every division he has raced, finished third in the make-up feature but would take the glory in a wild and crazy second feature. For Crawley, it would be his seventh of 2010 and increased his points lead with two weeks remaining in the season.

Crawley’s dominance continued in the Touchstone Energy Sportsman class, taking his eighth feature of the season. Leading all 15 laps, Crawley would not be hassled during the A-Main as he started on the pole and would control the tempo from the opening green flag.

For the third-straight week, Crawley would have a Street Stock ready to compete for the night but his luck would run out as he fell out of the race on the third lap, he was leading at the time, and Mike Pickering would take over with the lead. A caution flag during the tenth lap set up a finish with he and Troy Dodson. Dodson cut underneath Pickering for the lead on the restart coming to
the white flag and would hold on for his first feature of the year and first since May 23, 2009.

Macon Speedway also featured the High School Hornets class Saturday night with nine racing in the division. Tommy Eskew of Williamsville High School was the winner, his first feature of the year but second in the class as he won to inaugural High School Hornets race in the 2009 season finale.

Macon Speedway would like to thank Easter Seals for sponsoring the evening on the ninth anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks on New York and Washington. The National Anthem, as it always does at the beginning of the event, played proudly before the crowd.

Next week will mark the return of the UMP Late Models to the race track for the Mueller Lite Beer Twin 50s as the Late Models and Modifieds will run 50 lap features. It will also be the final Big Ten Series race for the Late Models. A full show is scheduled, as well.

(Macon, IL) Macon Speedway will host the Easter Seals Hornet World Championship race this Saturday night at Macon Speedway. The nights UMP Pro Hornet race will include a $500 to win purse. It is also a big night for points for the UMP Modified division as they will be picking up very valuable points for the season championship by competing in two feature events this Saturday. One of the features will be the make up from a rained out race back in July. Many local and Midwest Hornets are expected to be in attendance. Also on the racing card for this Saturday, September 11 will be the UMP Touchstone Energy Sportsman, Street Stocks, Pro and Amateur Hornets plus our High School Hornet division.
So far this season with three races to go the division leaders are: UMP Late Model; Mike Hammerle, UMP Modified; Davey Crawley, UMP Touchstone Energy Sportsman; Davey Crawley, UMP Street Stocks; Larry Russell, UMP Pro Hornets; Sam McCoy, Amateur Hornets; Jonathan Drake. There are only 3 races left in the 2010 season so the next few nights will be very important to the points leaders and all who are still in hunt for the championship.

6th Annual IL State Street Stock Championship Race
(Macon, IL) Macon Speedway will host the 6th annual Illinois State Street Stock Championship race. The nights UMP Street Stock race will include a $600 to win purse. It is also one of the two final races for the season in the Big Ten Street Stock series with the final race to be held at Shepp’s Speedway on Sept 5. Terry Reed is in the lead in the Big Ten series leading Larry Russell of Decatur heading into the double header weekend. Many local and Midwest Street Stocks are expected to be in attendance. Also on the racing card for this Saturday, September 4 will be the UMP Modified, Touchstone Energy Sportsman, Pro and Amateur Hornets. The rain out features from July 24 will also take place for the Pro & Amateur Hornet divisions
The Macon Speedway points races are heating up as we enter the final month of racing in 2010 at Macon Speedway. The UMP Late Model Champion title will be decided on Sept 18 for the Miller Lite Beer Twin 50’s. The UMP Modified race is still up in the air with Dave Crawley Jr. AKA “Elvis” in the lead with Mark Tullis close behind with only 82 points between the two. The UMP Touchstone Energy Sportsman division is also a tight race with Decatur’s Davey Crawley once again on top with a 106 point lead over Taylorville’s own Scott Landers. The Street Stock drivers will hope to gain ground this weekend especially with the $600 purse on the line. Larry Russell leads the other field of drivers edging out Mike Pickering by a mere 50 points with 4 races to go. The Amatuer Hornet division is being lead by Jonathon Drake and the Hornet division finds Sam McCoy on top driving his number 7S hornet. Don’t miss the racing action in the month of September to see who will be the next driver to be crowned “Macon Speedway Champion of 2010”.

No Rain on Shriner’s Parade

(Macon, IL) Eight days after the 8th Annual Dana Godfrey Memorial suffered from rain, a new race event was launched featuring the exciting racing action of the Macon Speedway UMP Late Models and the Shriners. Mostly known with the small funny-looking cars during parades, the Shriners are also known for their charitable work with young children with the Shriner’s Children’s Hospitals, of which there are 22 spread across the United States and Canada.

The inaugural “Shrine 50” saw exciting and close racing throughout the 50 laps. Between laps 4 and 31, the racing stayed under green flag conditions and allowed leader and front row outside driver Richie Hedrick the chance to bolster his lead to nearly a half-a-lap over the second place driver, John Beck. With the action tight in spots 2-through-6, a third place Roger Brickler ran the high side a little too high and smacked into the wall to lose his spot and then spin into the fourth turn wall to cause the caution to fly.

The action stayed close but Hedrick would not be harassed any further and would go on for his second feature of 2010 (his first came during the season’s second week). John Beck finished second, Kerby Damery and Rick Standridge finished third and fourth, respectively.

Jeremy Nichols made it two in-a-row in the UMP Modifieds and four overall in the 2010 season defeating Dave Crawley, Jr. and Aaron Burcham, both contested for the lead early in the 20-lap feature event. Mark Tullis, who also battled for the top spot, finished fifth behind Randy Huffman.

Mike Pickering won his fourth feature of the year as he held off Mike Pundt, Jr. on the bottom side of the track, which was Pundt’s strong line during the heat race. Pickering led all 12 laps in the A-Main feature.

Michael Webb won in the Pro Hornets and Jerad Matherly won his second Amateur Hornet feature of the year.

Macon Speedway would like to thank the Shriners, All Service Contracting, Bodine Services and all the fans who helped support the event as all proceeds benefited the Shriner’s Children’s Hospitals.

As the season moves into September, the Street Stocks will take the top billing with their 4th Annual Illinois Street Stock Championship race on September 4th. Pro and Amateur Hornet features that were washed out on August 20th will be made up that night.

MACON SPEEDWAY’S MIDWEST BIG TEN LATE MODEL SERIES EVENT THIS WEEKEND!
(Macon, IL) Macon Speedway is excited to announce with the help of Shriner Hospitals for Children the popular Midwest Big Ten Series will be back in action this Saturday night at Macon Speedway as part of the Shrine 50 event. Morgan County Speedway, Jacksonville, IL, and Shepps Speedway, Alexander, IL have teamed up with Macon Speedway for our promotion, the “Midwest Big Ten Series”. Each of the ten races will include larger winnings to the winner of the feature. At the end of the season the points each driver has accumulated in those 10 races will be totaled and there will be $10,000 distributed throughout the top ten Late Models. This Saturday night the UMP Late Model winner will win $1,500 plus if they are a Crate Late Model they will pick up a bonus of $100 bringing their winnings to $1,600! Don’t miss an exciting night of racing at Macon Speedway featuring 5 UMP divisions.
So far with only two races left, the Big Ten Late Model Series finds #25 Steve Lance Jr in first place. Closing in on Lance is Kyle Logue in his 21 Late Model sitting in second place. Lance and Logue are being closely followed by a Late Model driven by Roger Brickler in his green and white number 82. This weekend’s events will be crucial for all three drivers leading the point’s standings to sustain their point’s leads. With over 50 cars so far competing in the series we expect a thrilling 50 lap feature from the UMP Late Model for the 1st Annual Shrine 50. The final race in the series will take place at Macon Speedway on September 18 for a 50 lap feature during the Miller Lite Beer Twin 50’s.

Macon Speedway Hosts Race to Benefit Shriners Hospitals for Children Aug. 28

Macon Speedway, in Macon, IL has announced a new partnership with the Decatur Shrine Club that will bring what is hoped to be a new “fan favorite” at the track ­- the “Shrine 50.” The Shriners and Macon Speedway will hold a huge 50-lap feature event for the UMP Late Model division paying $1,500 to the winner, in order to raise money for the benefit of the Shriners Hospitals for Children®.

 “We are very excited about the upcoming opportunity to bring great racing to the fans of Macon Speedway and help such a worthy cause,” said track owner Bob Sargent.

The Decatur Shrine Club supports Shriners Hospitals for Children®, an international health care system of 22 hospitals dedicated to improving the lives of children by providing specialty pediatric care, innovative research and outstanding teaching programs. Children up to age 18 with orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate are eligible for care at Shriners Hospitals for Children® and receive all services at no financial obligation to families.

The night’s racing card will also feature UMP Modifieds and UMP Street Stocks and Pro and Amateur Hornets to entertain the fans along with many special activities planned.

The Shrine 50 will also be the second to last chance for UMP Late Model drivers to pick up valuable points for the Big Ten Late Model Series.

Logue Dazzles Again in Late Models; Vandermeersch Qualifies for Nationals

(Macon, IL) Since returning to his home track on a regular basis, Kyle Logue, the 2-time defending Late Model track champion, has continued his torrent pace to be the division’s top driver. After missing the open of the season without an engine and consideration racing in the Northern All-Star Late Model Series, Logue has been among the top drivers since the beginning of summer.
 
Logue led all 25 laps en route to his fourth feature of 2010 and his fourth in the last seven races (including a second-place finish to Jason Feger in the Northern All-Star Late Model Series special in late July). The lead was in jeopardy with less than ten laps to go as Springfield’s Brian Diveley appeared to have taken the top spot from Logue on the backstretch but as they crossed the judge’s stand on the front straightaway, Logue was back in the lead and took a dominating control on the race. Diveley would finish third behind the current points leader Mike Hammerle. John Beck of Springfield was fastest qualifier and a heat winner, he took fourth.
 
It has been a tough last few weeks for Springfield’s Dennis Vandermeersch. A former track champion has had difficulties on the track with the car breaking down seemingly every week and his son being injured in a motorcycle accident. But Vandermeersch turned things around Saturday with a Springfield Mile Qualifier feature. Vandermeersch is a four-time winner of the Nationals event at the Illinois State Fairgrounds, trailing only Wes O’Dell for the all-time wins, O’Dell has five.
Vandermeersch would take the lead from O’Dell on lap nine as a lapped car spun in front of the leading O’Dell which would give Vandermeersch the opportunity to assume the lead. From that moment on, the race would stay very close as Argenta’s Nick Macklin, Decatur’s Dave Crawley, Jr. and Taylorville’s Scott Landers would not allow Vandermeersch to stray away. Coming to the checkered flag, Vandermeersch would win but by half a car length over Macklin as his ignition would fail crossing the finish line.
 
Jeremy Nichols returned to victory lane in the Modifieds, leading all 20 laps of the A-Main feature race. Jacksonville’s Ryan Blakeman proved to be tough to beat but Nichols was up to the challenge for his third feature of the year.
 
Larry Russell, Jr. won his seventh Street Stock feature holding off Kevin Crowder and Brian Cassell in a close race. With the win, Russell’s points lead will expand over the rest of the field.
 
Macon Speedway hosted another night with three classes of Hornets with the Pro, Amateur and High School classes gracing the track. Fred Reed, Jr. won the Pro class for the second time in 2010, leading Eric Wilson and Jeff Eller; Jerad Matherly took his first Amateur Hornet feature and Pana High School’s Derek Peters, who is not quite ready for school to begin in the coming days, was the winner in the High School Hornets class.
Macon Speedway hosted seven UMP racing divisions which all saw incredible races during the heats and features after a week’s layoff to allow the Hartung Powerwash Midwest Summer Nationals and go-karts to race at the premier motorsports facility in Illinois.
 
Exciting open wheel racing returns to Macon Speedway on Friday with the POWRi Midgets and Micro Sprints. Modifieds, Street Stocks and Hornets will be apart of the show.

Macon Speedway Announces Schedule Change Along With Action Packed End of Season 

            Macon Speedway wants to announce the following change to its 2010 schedule.  The previously rescheduled Miller Lite Beer Twin 50’s will be moved from Thursday, August 5 to Saturday, September 18.  The Miller Lite Beer Twin 50’s will feature all divisions of racing plus will be the final night for our Macon Speedway Kids Club where there will be many special surprises in store.    Macon Speedway owners have decided that that week should be kept free of racing as planned earlier in the schedule to allow time for our drivers, loyal fans and Macon Speedway employees to have time for vacations with their families and friends.  We appreciate the patronage that our drivers and fans give us and time that our employees give to us in the summer and we would like to keep this week available for them to take advantage of some time off before the summer ends.  We will be back in action on Saturday, August 14 for our Fan Appreciation Night, where all fans will be admitted for half price which is $5; children 12 & under are free with a paid adult.  The Macon Speedway Kids Club will be racing their box cars on this night as well. Don’t miss the new Shrine 50 which will be held on August 28 featuring a 50 lap feature for the UMP Late Model division.  Discount tickets can be purchased from your local Shriner organization.  This will also be a Big Ten Series event for the Late Models so we expect a large number of Late Models to be on hand.

MACON SPEEDWAY ENDS A BUSY JULY THIS SATURDAY NIGHT WITH A NIGHT OF RACING FEATURING ALL 7 DIVISIONS
(Macon, IL) Macon Speedway will be featuring UMP Late Models, Modifieds, Touchstone Energy Sportsman, Street Stocks and Pro and Amateur Hornets plus High School Hornets on July 31 to round out the action packed month of July. Fans won’t want to miss the thrilling action this Saturday night as the points races are definitely heating up. With only 10 races left on the schedule for 2010, drivers are vying for position in every race. St. Charles MO’s own 16H driven by Mike Hammerle is on top in the UMP Late Model division with another out of state driver Jim Moon coming in a close second. The local boys are leading the points race in the UMP Modified division with Decatur’s Davey Crawley leading Macon’s own Mark Tullis by 32 points. Davey Crawley also finds his self at the top of the UMP Touchstone Energy Sportsman division leading Shelbyville’s Rick Roedel. Larry Russel is leading Mike Pickering by a slim margin in the UMP Street Stock division. Jonathon Drake is in a s!
omewhat comfortable lead in the Amateur Hornet division by leading his division with 152 points, separated him and the second place Amateur Hornet driven by Joseph McChristy. The Pro Hornet division is the closest race of them all with Fred Reed Jr. leading Sam Mc Coy by only 10 points which can be easily gained with one night of racing at Macon Speedway.
Macon Speedway will be back in action next Thursday night with the rescheduling of the Miller Lite Beer Twin 50’s on Aug 5. The drivers will have a little over a week to prepare for the next event as Macon Speedway will not race stock cars on Aug 7 to give families a chance to attend the Decatur Celebration. The track will be back in action on Aug 14 with all 7 divisions once again racing. It will also be Fan Appreciation Night where Adult tickets will be $5 and children 12 & under are admitted for free. (Macon, IL) Macon Speedway is proud to bring open wheeled action to the track this weekend to keep you on the edge of your seats. The 2010 O’Reilly POWRi National Midget and 600cc Micro Sprint Series will thrill fans this weekend at the lightning quick Macon Speedway in Macon, IL on Saturday, July 24. Austin Brown of Millstadt, IL and 2007 POWRi Midget Champ Brad Loyet of Sunset Hills, MO will be in attendance along with defending champ Brad Kuhn, Tyler Robbins and Shane Cockrum. In the 600cc Micro Sprints local driver; Jeremy Camp of Blue Mound, IL will join Gregg Dillion, Nic Harris, Andrew Felker and Nick Ivy to bring fans to the edge of their seats. The POWRi cars should put on quite a display this Saturday night; as well over 100 cars are expected to battle it out on the super fast 1/5 mile oval. Saturday night will also be featuring our UMP Modified, Street Stock and Hornet divisions in conjunction with the POWRi sanctioned events.

Feger and Wallace Win on All-Star Thursday

(Macon, IL) It’s been a tough two weeks for Bloomington, IL., native Jason Feger.  He felt he should have been the winner of the 30^th Annual Herald & Review 100 during the UMP DIRTcar Summer Nationals but finished second to Dennis Erb, Jr.  Feger had the last laugh, however, winning the UMP DIRTcar Summer Nationals series. 

Feger was the fast qualifier of 24 UMP Late Models during the Northern All-Star Late Model Series event Thursday at Macon Speedway, started on the pole of the heat he also won, and started front row outside opposite to Kyle Logue.  He was having a good night.  The night got better as he passed Logue on the fourth lap of 30 to take the lead.  Feger used the high groove to race and finish second at the Herald & Review 100 but Thursday, Feger raced on the bottom to hold the lead and take the $2,000-to-win top prize.  Logue would finish second.  Roger Brickler stayed ahead of Richie Hedrick for third.  Of note, Macon Speedway co-owner Ken Schrader finished eighth as he spent the majority of the race fending off Terry Reed.  Schrader did manage to win the second heat bypassing Hedrick on the race’s last lap.

Kenny Wallace has been looking for victory lane at Macon Speedway all season and finally got ahold of it Thursday in front of NASCAR legend Bill Elliott on NASCAR Night.  Wallace and Schrader joined Elliott for an autograph session prior to the night’s racing and Elliott stayed to watch the show from the track’s Turn 4 Lounge.

Wallace led all 15 laps of the UMP Modified feature and had little competition but on the restarts did have to hold off the defending feature winner Mark Tullis.  Tullis would not be able to overcome the fast Wallace and he would finish runner-up but did starve off Wes O’Dell, who finished third-which was the finishing spot for the All-Service Racing Parts and Sheet Metal Best Fan in the Stands $100 bonus-and Clark Robertson finished fourth.

The 2010 Summer of Fun continues at Macon Speedway with the return of the POWRi Midgets and Micros Saturday night.  UMP Modifieds, Street Stocks and both Pro and Amateur Hornets are scheduled to race.

Northern Allstars Late Model Series and NASCAR Star Bill Elliott to Invade Macon Speedway This Thursday, July 22

(Macon, IL) Race fans will be treated to a special event this Thursday night as the Northern Allstar Series will make its way to the super fast Macon Speedway.  Fans won’t want to miss this exciting night of racing when all of the Late Models who attended the Summer Nationals Series will be back in action this Thursday night.  The event will be a special night for racers in the Late Model division as they will be earning National points towards the NALMS, UMP Series and they will pick up points to towards Macon Speedway.  The Late Models will be racing for $2,000 to win and much needed points.  The UMP Modified division will also be racing this evening with $600 up for grabs for the first place finisher.  Thursday night will also be a special night for the fans as well, not only will they get to see wheel to wheel racing action; they will also be treated to a Night of Nascar Stars where track owners Ken Schrader & Kenny Wallace will bring Nascar legend Bill Elliott to the track for the first time to sign autographs for the fans. 

Join us as the local UMP Modified drivers like Davey Crawley, Mark Tullis, Aaron Burcham and Danny Smith try and show the Nascar Stars they know a thing or two about racing in the dirt.  Schrader and Wallace will both be behind the wheels of their UMP Modifieds racing for Federated Car Care.  The Macon Speedway points race in the UMP Modified division is a close one with #37 Davey Crawley AKA “Elvis” in the lead over Macon’s own Mark Tullis piloting his #T2 UMP Modified.  Crawley is leading Tullis by a mere 56 points with 11 more nights of racing at Macon Speedway.  Come out to the track to see who will reign supreme in the UMP Modified division; local track heroes or track owners.

By his early teens Bill was driving delivery trucks throughout the twisting roads of Northern Georgia, at rates of speed he smiles and says he would rather not discuss these days. The racing bug had already bitten. Bill and his brothers began in racing selling parts out of a truck to racers at tracks in the area. Ernie would eventually start his own engine business, while Bill specialized in building chassis and setting up suspensions. He also did a little racing and on September 7th, 1974 Bill won his first sportsman race at the Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, Georgia. More victories soon followed and the family saw Bill's talents as a God given gift that!

Elliott's first career Winston Cup start was Feb. 29, 1976 at the Carolina 500 in Rockingham, N.C. He started 34th and finished 33rd. Raceway on April 12, 1981.Elliott has won the famed Daytona 500 twice, 1985 and 1987. He won both races from the pole. (Macon, IL) Macon Speedway is excited to announce with the help of Skeff Distributing the popular Midwest Big Ten Series will be back in action this Saturday night at Macon Speedway as part of the Skeff Distributing/Christmas in July toy drive event. Morgan County Speedway, Jacksonville, IL, and Shepps Speedway, Alexander, IL has teamed up with Macon Speedway for our promotion, the “Midwest Big Ten Series”. Each of the ten races will include larger winnings to the winner of the feature. At the end of the season the points each driver has accumulated in those 10 races will be totaled and there will be $10,000 distributed throughout the top ten Late Models. This Saturday night the UMP Late Model winner will win $1,200 plus if they are a Crate Late Model they will pick up a bonus of $100 bringing their winnings to $1,300! The three tracks are also bringing a Big Ten Series for the Street Stock division sponsored by Decatur Used Cars, running under the same guidelines but !
with different payout. This Saturday night is also a Big Ten night for the Street Stocks which offers $500 to the winner of that event. Macklin Qualifies for Mile on Touchstone Energy Night at Macon Speedway

(Macon, IL) A huge show for the Touchstone Energy Sportsman occurred on Saturday with the sponsor of the division in house to watch the near 30-car division run for a $500-to-win first-place prize.  Argenta’s Nick Macklin, who has spent his recent time in Late Models, got back behind the Sportsman and dominated the 20-car field.  Through early cautions, Macklin made his passes to the lead and started stretching it out over Rick Roedel, who drives a car sponsored by Touchstone Energy, and Dave Crawley, Jr.  Multi-time feature winner this season Dennis Vandermeersch had problems with his car on the second lap and was forced into the infield.

Macklin would win the 20-lap race and qualify for the Springfield Mile Sportsman’s Nationals race during the Illinois State Fair.  Along with him were Roedel, Crawley, Jr., and Norm Wood.  Judy Cole of Remax of Springfield donated an additional $200 to the finisher of the dice roll, which was rolled a six by Macklin, and Ryan Blair got the money.

Joe Strawkus won his first feature race of 2010 after a disappointing start to the season.  Strawkus, driver of the white 28 Modified, looked much like Late Model driver Dennis Erb, Jr., from Thursday’s Herald & Review 100, as he followed the low groove the entire race, leading all 20 laps and beating current points leader and defending champion Dave Crawley, Jr. 

Another race for the POWRi Micro Sprints in the 2010 Summer of Fan 11-Race Summer Series took place at Macon Speedway Saturday with Paul Nienhiser of Chapin locking up the feature win after getting past Keith Garner and staying ahead of Bubba Altig.

There was another Wilson in victory lane in the Pro Hornets class.  Jim Wilson had has the glory of the checkered flag for the previous two features but this time his son Eric would take the honors and claim his third feature of the 2010 season.  In the Amateur Hornet feature, Garrett Lewis won his second feature event of the year.

After a span of four race nights in seven, Macon Speedway takes some time off to prepare for two Big Ten Series races, one for the Street Stocks and one for the Late Models.  UMP Modifieds, Pro and Amateur Hornets will also be apart of the Christmas in July Toy Drive evening.

Dennis Erb Jr Takes Herald & Review 100 at Macon Speedway

(Macon, IL) The DIRTcar Summer Nationals made their yearly visit to Macon Speedway Thursday with much anticipation with the points chance very close.  Dennis Erb, Jr. of Carpentersville has won three-straight Summer Nationals points championships and was leading the chase into the 30^th Annual Herald & Review 100.   

Former Macon Speedway track champion Brian Shirley was the fast car very early being the fastest of the 34 drivers in the Late Model division.  He was a heat winner and started at the pole position for the 100-lap event.  Through the first 54 laps, Shirley was nearly untouchable.  He weaved his way in and out of the lapped traffic and opened up on second place driver, and two-time Herald & Review 100 champion, Shannon Babb. 

Heading into the 55^th lap, which by that time had only experienced two cautions, Babb caught a groove and got fast.  He passed Shirley as he banged his way off the walls along the 1/5^th-mile dirt track. 

Babb’s lead would hold until Jason Feger, of Bloomington, IL., took over on lap 62 as the race’s third leader.  Feger raced on the high groove to start stretching his lead from second-place Babb, who continued to run along the bottom.  A yellow came out on lap 80 to force Feger and Babb to a bumper-bumper scenario and on the restart, Babb got an incredible burst of speed from the bottom to bump and pass Feger and regain the lead with only 19 remaining. 

Babb was trying for his second-straight Herald & Review championship but after a caution on lap 94 and the restart, Erb, Jr., who had closed the gap running tightly across the bottom of the racetrack, took advantage of a mistake by Babb.  On the 96^th lap coming out of the second turn, Babb got loose and sent him barreling towards the backstretch wall.  That opened up the door for Erb and he jumped past Babb for the race’s final laps to claim his first Herald & Review 100 championship. Babb’s recovery would allow him a third place finish behind Feger and in front of Greenbriar, AR, driver Jack Sullivan.  Macon Speedway regular Kyle Logue posted a sixth-place finish. 

The race lasted 41 minutes and went through six caution flags.  Shirley led the most laps with 54 and exited on lap 59.  Babb totaled 21 leading laps, Feger had the lead for 18 and Erb finished the race with 3 laps to win. 

The UMP Modifieds were also apart of the show and Dave Crawley, Jr. won his fifth feature to extend his two-point lead in the division over Aaron Burcham, who finished fifth in the 20-lapper.  Mark Tullis was the second-place finisher and Bloomington, IN., native John DeMoss made his first trip to Macon Speedway a decent showing taking third. 

Another exciting night of racing is due on Saturday with the sponsor of the Sportsman class, Touchstone Energy, coming to Macon Speedway for Touchstone Energy Night.  It will also be a special night for the firefighters with the Fireman’s Ball as all firefighters and their families will be admitted into Macon Speedway for half-price showing proper identification.  The POWRi Micros will be apart of the show which will feature a Sportsman’s Qualifier for the Springfield Mile race in August.

Herald & Review 100 and UMP Summer Nationals Set to Invade Macon Speedway Plus NASCAR Star Ken Schrader Returns
 
(Macon, IL) Race fans will be treated to a special UMP Late Model event at the Macon Speedway on Thursday, July 8th, with the running of the Herald & Review 100. This event will mark stop 21 in the 28 date Summer Nationals Late Model tour. Summer National fans will also have a special treat as NASCAR Star Ken Schrader will also be on hand for the huge event. The Summer Nationals tour pays over three-quarters of a million dollars in prize money with Thursday night’s winner taking home $6000 for their win. The UMP Summer Nationals tour has quickly become one of the most anticipated dirt Late Model tours in the nation that attracts talented drivers like Dennis Erb, Randy Korte, Rodney Melvin, Brian Shirley, Jason Feger, Billy Moyer and Shannon Babb. Last year’s winner of the Macon Speedway Summer Nationals was Shannon Babb of Moweaqua, IL. In addition to the exciting hundred lap UMP Late Model feature, our UMP Modified division will also hit the track.
 
Adult tickets will cost $20 and children 12 & Under are $5. Pit passes will be sold the day of the event for $35. Pit gates open at 4pm; Grandstands open at 5pm with the racing action starting at 7pm.
 
UPCOMING EVENTS:
The Herald & Review 100 is just one of many races still on the action packed July schedule. On July 10 join us for Touchstone Energy and the Fireman’s Ball. The UMP Sportsman will be racing for $500 to win plus an added bonus of $200 courtesy of Judy Cole, Broker/Realtor at the Springfield Remax office. July 10 will also be the last chance at Macon Speedway for the UMP Sportsman to qualify for the Sportsman Nationals to be held on August 22 during the Illinois State Fair, plus the Micros will also be racing on Saturday night. Return to the track on July 17 for the annual Skeff Distributing Christmas in July Toys for Kids drive. The racing action will include Big Ten races for the UMP Late Model and UMP Street Stock divisions plus it is also a special night for the UMP Modified division as it will be a Tri Track event for them. The third Night of Nascar Stars at Macon Speedway will take place on July 22 and will feature Bill Elliott, Ken Schrader and Kenny Wallace. NASC!
AR Star and former driver of the #9 Budweiser, Bill Elliott, “Million Dollar Bill,” will make his first appearance ever at the famous Macon Speedway.

Macon, IL – Macon Speedway will be hosting Night of NASCAR Stars II on Monday, July 5th with NASCAR stars Tony Stewart, Kenny Wallace and Ken Schrader. See Ken Schrader, Kenny Wallace and Tony Stewart race their UMP Modifieds. Tony will be racing a Modified for the first time ever at Macon Speedway
 
Tony Stewart from Columbus, IN whom is one of the partners in Macon Speedway has only raced a couple times around the facility. Tony is the driver of the number 14 Office Depot/Old Spice Chevrolet in the Sprint Cup Series. Tony is no stranger to open wheel racing as he has raced go karts, quarter midgets, midgets, sprint cars, silver crown, indy cars and then he moved to stock cars. Tony has been very successful with his career winning championships in IKF and WKA Karting, USAC three series, IRL, NASCAR Cup Series. The UMP Late Models will be racing for $1,200 to win plus the top finishing Crate Late Model will receive a $100 bonus.  UMP Late Model driver Jeremy Nichols has a small point lead over Jim Moon in his #1 Late Model.  They are both hoping to beat last year’s winner Brandon Sheppard to the finish line this Saturday night to bring home the checkered flag.  The UMP Modified division will be racing for $600 to win.  Last year’s Firecracker 40 winner in the Modified division was Jeremy Nichols.  The UMP Modified race is even tighter as Aaron Burcham leads Davey Crawley by a mere 6 points.  Macon Speedway provides a thrilling combination of edge-of-your-seat racing action, fun and exciting promotions, and wholesome family entertainment each and every Saturday night.  With 95Q and the Firecracker 40’s, Saturday, July 3rd will be no exception.  There is something for everyone to enjoy at Macon Speedway!
